Trail Reviews

Astrid 🌍
September 17, 2021, Der Mottener (Extratour) oder Hinterm Horizont 🌅 geht's weiter, geht's weiter... 😳🙈😂

The cast has been off for two days 😃. So today I just had to dare: 🚘 drive (after more than four weeks) 😎. Started at 11 a.m. in Speicherz. It was the turn of the “Mottener”. I enjoyed the tour very much. Some of the “climbs” dragged on quite a bit ... Up on the hood the view was unfortunately not that good, but it was still an impressive view! And I was enthusiastic about the tower 🤩 I was on my own the whole way ... even though the weather was perfect for hiking. Particularly interesting is the Pilsterstein rock, which stands in the middle of the area, near Kothen. The route went straight up there anyway, of course I had to go up there too ... only up to the “summit” today, not quite, with just one fully functional hand too tricky ... Then we went back to Speicherz, I thought 🙈. Every time I thought I was on the home straight, it went again in the opposite direction or steeply uphill in the forest 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ so much to the horizon ... 😎 The last part of the way was a very pleasant forest path, really beautiful. For the sake of simplicity, I designed the Royal Bavarian Landmarks as a collage, otherwise there would have been more pictures ... 😉

Very nice round trip on varied paths and with beautiful views of the Sinntal. There was also a steep climb to the Mottener Haube. But we were rewarded with a brilliant all-round view of the observation tower. Unfortunately it was very steamy, the distant peaks could only be seen in the haze. It went down again over blooming meadows and past rushing brooks.

Varied extra tour in late summer. The ascent and descent to the Mottener Haube (Gr. Haube) are quite steep and demanding. The view from the tower is of course worth the 122 steps. Today there were a lot of mushrooms in the forest and as a mushroom unfamiliar I left them all in their place. The Sauerbrunnen (small detour from the path) is an ideal place for a snack. Real 526 Hm.

Parking: next to the Gasthaus Bieber there is a small path to the Tesla superchargers. There are also several parking spaces behind it

The start and end point of today's hike was the Gasthof zum Biber in Speicherz. From there we went with many great panoramic views to the former volcanic vent Pilsterstein and the Mottener Haube with observation tower. Shortly before and after the Mottener Haube it goes along the old border of the kingdoms of Bavaria and Prussia for a while. In the end we shortened the tour a little bit because of aching feet.

You can start the tour at the following car parks: 🅿️ Car park, Rhine/Weser watershed, free of charge

The Mottener leads through forests and over fields from Speicherz to the large hood with the lookout tower and then to the Pilsterstein near Kothen. You can only really see far ahead from the tower. Otherwise it remains very low mountain range. However, there is one or the other climb that definitely enhances the tour. The view from the Pilsterstein is also quite nice. Incidentally, you also pass the watershed between the Rhine and the Weser!

With the nice weather, I just had to go out again. I had decided to do this extra tour because I hadn't been up the Haube for ages and I was able to enjoy a lot of sun here. I started in Speicherz at the starting point and walked anti-clockwise, which turned out to be a good decision in retrospect. First, I went up a serpentine footpath, through sun-drenched forests, and soon climbed the first mountain. Unfortunately, the route signage there was inadequate; there were signs, but only a few at a time, and at some point there were none at all. According to komoot, the route also runs differently, but it didn't matter because I got back on the route at the end of my route. At this junction, however, the route on the map was different from the signage, which was a bit confusing. Well, I then reached the Pilsterstein and enjoyed the view. (1/2)
