Cycling

The beautiful bike tour to Eugendorf starts right at Salzburg Cathedral. From here you cycle from the city center to the Salzach and cross it on the Müllner Steg, from which you have a unique view of the old town with the Hohensalzburg Fortress. You follow the bank a little way north and finally turn off towards Sam on the Ischlerbahn route at Itzling.

The narrow-gauge railway route once connected the city of Salzburg with the town of Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut and became famous because His Majesty Emperor Franz Joseph I used it to get to his summer residence. From 1894 onwards, a railway ran along this route for over sixty years along green meadows, crystal-clear lakes and imposing mountains. After the railway was dismantled, this picturesque route was fortunately opened up to cyclists and pedestrians, connecting the Mozart city of Salzburg with Eugendorf.

Once you arrive in Eugendorf, you can take a long break to visit the church and stop off at a cozy café or restaurant. Afterwards, rested and refreshed, you will travel back to Salzburg on the same route.

Salzburg Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

In a devastating fire in 1598, the original cathedral of the city of Salzburg was so badly damaged that it decided to build a new building. After a construction period of 14 years, the new cathedral was inaugurated in 1628. Master builder was the Italian Santino Somari, who created a unique work of baroque architecture here.
