Road bike Tour from Lörrach to the Hochblauen

03:04

65.7km

Road cycling

This round offers you the finest views and a moderate ascent to the local mountain of Markgräflerland - the high blue, which makes you happy. Once you have managed this, you also know why you are taking it upon yourself: the all-round view from the sky blue to the Alps is simply phenomenal!

You start in Lörrach at Schwarzwaldstraße station. You roll up comfortably for the first few kilometers and can admire the quaint villages along your route. In Kandern, the road rises noticeably and you continue pedaling towards Hochblauen on a moderate incline. You have to overcome a few steeper ramps, but you can treat yourself to a drink break at one of the fountains along the way. The way back is to enjoy. You zoom down serpentines to Badenweiler, a grin on your face. Only with the "Lap" between the Kandertal and Lörrach you have to climb a small incline.

Back in Lörrach, there are a number of rest stops with espresso and ice cream waiting for you in the city or at the station square. Your well-deserved reward.

Summit of Blauen

The southern driveway from Kandern is a full eight kilometers longer than the one from the northwest via Badenweiler, so the gradient here is largely moderate and manageable even for those with less fitness. There is only a steeper ramp with up to twelve percent, but you can gain strength from several village fountains, at least one of which is always in operation - an advantage that the consistently demanding driveway via Badenweiler does not offer. For ambitious drivers, the other direction of travel is generally recommended, especially since the descent to Kandern allows significantly higher speeds due to fewer curves.

After the last two windy rides, pure enjoyment.
There was hardly any spring on the ascent in the Kandertal, but everything was blooming in the southern foothills of the Blaue. It was worth the bumpy descent.

Today is the second "1,000" tour this year, over 1,000 meters in altitude. Why am I saying that? Because my untrained jelly legs are pushing me to do so and think it's worth mentioning.

Much more important: It was a sublime feeling to have cycled to a summit and to be rewarded with a great view.
