This trail is classified as a high-difficulty or hard hike. It requires good physical condition, sure-footedness, sturdy shoes, and some alpine experience, especially for the technical sections like the Pas del Badall. It is not recommended for beginners.
The terrain is varied and demanding. You'll encounter forest tracks, narrow technical paths, and significant elevation changes. Expect rocky sections, especially around the Pas del Badall, which involves scrambling, chains, and metal staples. Some parts can be eroded, and there are very narrow passages where you might need to crawl or remove your backpack.
The most notable feature is the Pas del Badall, a deep, narrow fissure equipped with chains and staples. Other highlights include the natural springs of Les Fonts de les Penyes Blanques, the Penya Blanca Cliffs, Sa Cova Dalt and Els Corrals (caves with great views), and the impressive Serra de Ses Cordelleres mountain range. You'll also enjoy panoramic views of the Serra del Penyó, Segaria mountain range, and the Mediterranean Sea.
The estimated completion time for this challenging circular route is around 4.5 to 6 hours, depending on your pace and experience with technical sections.
The best time to hike this trail is during spring or autumn when temperatures are milder. Avoid the peak summer months due to intense heat, and be aware that some natural springs may be dry during hotter periods. Winter can also be suitable, but always check weather conditions for potential ice or rain, which can make technical sections more hazardous.
Due to the highly technical nature of the trail, including scrambling, chains, and very narrow passages where hikers may need to crawl, this route is generally not suitable for dogs. It would be extremely difficult and potentially unsafe for most canine companions.
The trail is located near the town of Benigembla in Alicante, Spain. Hikers typically start from Benigembla, and parking can usually be found in or around the village, close to the official start of the PR-CV 465 route.
No, there are no permits or entrance fees required to hike the Sender del Badall and les Fonts de les Penyes Blanques Trail (PR-CV 465).
The route passes by several natural springs, known as Les Fonts de les Penyes Blanques (including Font de Baix, Font de Dalt, and Font de les Penyes Blanques). However, these springs can be dry depending on the season, especially during warmer months. It is highly recommended to carry sufficient water for your entire hike.
Yes, the Sender del Badall and les Fonts de les Penyes Blanques Trail (PR-CV 465) is a designated route that also incorporates sections of other paths. You will find it intersects with parts of the Senda Penya l'Altar, Senda de l'Ombria, and various segments of the Camí de Benigembla a la Penya Blanca.
Given the trail's difficulty, you should bring sturdy hiking boots with good grip, plenty of water, snacks, a first-aid kit, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and appropriate clothing layers. Due to the technical sections, gloves can be helpful for gripping chains and rocks. A headlamp or flashlight is also advisable if you anticipate being on the trail near dusk or dawn, or exploring any caves.
Leaving Parcent on the CV720 to Benigembla and taking the small Cami del Pasqualet up for approximately 2.5km. We found a large parking area on the left under trees. This is a circular route PRCV 465. The Pass del Badall is considered challenging, with a number of chains, staples, "a letterbox cave" to "worm" your way through, and again a very narrow route up with a chain via a fissure between the rocks. An amazingly beautiful route will take you along the Penyas Blancas. We then left the official trail to go up to the Cova d'Alt. This stretch therefore is a linear part before making our way back to where we came off the PRCV465. Fabulous views of Sierra Helada, Moron Blanco, Moron Bleu, Castell de Castells, Malla del Llop, Serrella and Pla de la Casa. Then we start making our way back via a well marked track. In the Cova de Badall, the signal bounced around erratically 🤷♀️
