The Path of the Reclamation of the Maestro della Chiana Canal rises on an ancient road once used for the maintenance of the canal and locks, between Chiusi and Arezzo. It is a natural track, almost entirely on dirt, which is perfect for bike rides also suitable for the whole family. The organization is also very simple: the nearby railway lines make it very quick to return to the starting point. Following the path you will discover wineries, squares, oil mills and artisan realities outside the traditional tourism routes. But also evidence of the Etruscan people, such as the Labyrinth of Porsenna in Chiusi, millenary walls and necropolis such as those of Cortona and Castiglion Fiorentino.
Depart from the Chiusi railway station towards the beginning of the path, which from the first kilometers offers precious naturalistic views, between Lake Chiusi and Lake Montepulciano, much loved by those who practice birdwatching. After about 15 kilometers, you enter the wide Val di Chiana, pedaling along the banks of the Canale Maestro. Continue towards Foiano della Chiana and the ingenious hydraulic work of Botte allo Strozzo, until you reach the Arezzo section of the Path of Reclamation. It then continues past the Frassineto hydraulic toll booth among the orchards and vineyards of Civitella in Val di Chiana until it crosses the Pont d'Arezzo. Here begins the mixed traffic section up to the Chiusa dei Monaci, an impressive hydraulic work dating back to 1115.
