Demanding hike. Great views and historically interesting info points.
UNESCO World Heritage Site Necropolis of Pantalicia The most beautiful hike we've ever done.
Today's hike was fantastic, though at times quite challenging and rocky. It required concentration. The Anapo Gorge is incredibly impressive, both naturally and historically. Today, it's an area left to nature, filled with birdsong and the gurgling and rushing of rivers and streams. A herd of wild boars crossed my path. I wanted to take a picture, but I froze so completely that I couldn't press the shutter. I rattled my walking stick, hearing something in the bushes, and then about 20 more piglets leaped across the path. What an experience! I continued my hike through a rocky landscape that was settled thousands of years ago; the numerous rock tombs and settlements were truly impressive. Today, I hiked through one of Sicily's largest prehistoric archaeological sites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A tour that offers everything: rocky paths in the blazing sun, but also shaded ones as I walked along the bottom of the gorges. From the viewpoints, I was able to admire the many burial chambers carved into the rock, many of them right along the path. Unfortunately, there are no photos, as all the images I upload are uploaded and disappear the next time I open the app. The route is 10.5 kilometers long and the elevation gain is 460 meters.
Sensational hike to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pantalica. It has over 5,000 chamber tombs, dating from the late Sicilian Bronze Age and early Iron Age. The necropolis belonged to the settlement of Pantalica and gave its name to the Pantalica (Northern) culture.
10km at 34°C was strenuous, but not difficult. We (53 and 57) were in good shape. 4.5 liters of water. We took a dip at the end. The prohibition signs at the beginning, like everything in Italy, are seen more as recommendations for action ;-). It was a nice feeling to enter our personal details at the beginning, as well as, of course, to check out.
