We started the Lonau circular trail from the Kirchtal parking lot. It led us along good paths, always above Lonau, through the dense beech forest. Along the way, we passed the capercaillie enclosure (HWN special stamp), where we could currently see one pair, but we also spotted a nuthatch and crested tits there. 😁 A very beautiful, quiet trail with great views 👍
On the way home from the Hochharz, we fortunately stopped off at the foot of the Harz near Herzberg and visited the beautiful town of Lonau. After two days of tree corpses at the heights of the Harz, things are still right down here because the mixed forest is much more resistant. It was a relief to hike through green, shady forests with fresh air and a variety of bird songs. The commitment is all the more urgent so that catastrophes like those in the Harz and other regions do not occur!! In any case, we walked the entire circular route around Lonau and enjoyed it to the fullest - all the way to the Kneipp bath on the Große Lonau! If you're looking for the Green Harz, you've come to the right place!
