The Hotzenpfad in the southern Black Forest offers both beautiful natural highlights and cultural and historical sites. The starting point is the free hiking car park near Rickenbach. From here it goes a short distance on a wide meadow path before entering the shady (Hotzen) forest. After the first kilometer, the path leads between huge boulders in the middle of the forest, one of which is the so-called Solfelsen, with its impressive height of 5.40 m and a mass of 230 tons. You have to look a little closer to see the next highlight: the remains of a historic 13th-century rampart lining the path. Not to be missed, however, is Klingenfelsen, named after a locally well-known 13th-century minstrel. And finally, the path runs along the Heidenwuhr, a kilometre-long artificial watercourse that was created in the late Middle Ages and characterizes the central image of the Hotzenwald. My conclusion: a wonderful varied tour.
So we can caption our hike today: Meadows, forests, root paths, Wuhren and foresight. (The Black Forest Association described it in a similar way) We parked at the Solfelsen hiking car park near Bergalingen and first walked past the transmission tower. But soon the forest took us in and the first highlight of the Solfelsen was reached. In our opinion, this hike absolutely deserves the title "premium trail". On predominantly narrow paths through forests and meadows, past various highlights and information boards, we were enthusiastic about this route. Again and again the forest gave wide views of the valley - just beautiful. This tour is excellently signposted (the fact that we once missed the turnoff was clearly our fault 😄😄). Benches or benches, tables and "chairs" always invite you to take a break along the way. We can only recommend this hike.
Hiked a gourmet path again today. Started in high fog, a little rain shower in between, but on the whole the weather held up. The Hotzenpfad is highly recommended, is varied and well signposted. The majority of the tour is on small and large forest paths, little gravel and asphalt. As a small bonus, there were also a few mushrooms, as my grandfather always said.
I made very last-minute plans for my day off. So I just went poaching in the area. Off to the Hotzenwald forest to hike the Hotzenpfad (Hotzen Trail). Overall, a beautiful hike. The detour just before the end was a "no-turn error." I wanted to follow the beautiful trail... but it was the wrong direction.
Right at the start of the hike, at the Solfelsen parking lot, you are greeted by a magnificent panorama. The Hotzenpfad (Hotzen Trail) greeted me with a magnificent view all the way to the Alps. The weather was fantastic. The beautifully landscaped path climbed and descended, offering wonderful views and pleasant rest stops along the way. At some point, the path led into the forest. At the Heidenwuhr (a man-made stream), my enthusiasm grew ever greater. I followed the stream along an exciting path, and the play of light with the sun in the forest gave the whole thing a pleasant, wonderful atmosphere. I left the stream and followed the path uphill, along the edge of the forest and green meadows, until, after a few kilometers, I reached the glider airfield. From up here, a breathtaking panorama unfolded that amazed me. In the distance, the Alps, Jura, Rhine, the Markgräflerland and the Rhine plain, the beautiful Black Forest with the striking peaks of the Hohe Möhr and the Belchen. From here on, the trail gently climbed and descended through the forest. The exciting stalking trail led past moss-covered, rounded boulders and formations. I frequently caught a glimpse of Wehr. The most impressive view awaited me at the spectacular Klingenfels. The gigantic rock stretches like a pillar of the earth. I continued along the stalking trail. Shortly after the Spatzenhof, I arrived at the Solfelsen. No matter how many times I've been here, the gigantic rock never ceases to amaze me. It's a mystical place for me, and I already have a strong connection to it. During my break, a cute squirrel scurried past behind me and hid its prey. The last kilometer to the starting point was once again very beautiful, and with a sensational panorama, I bid farewell to a wonderful hike.
This walk is highly recommended if you are in the area.
The Hotzenpfad is a beautiful and varied hiking trail in the southern Black Forest. Just behind the Swiss border, huge rocks covered in moss await you. As if thrown into the forest by Obelix. The trail continues along secluded paths with great views of the mountains. There is no shortage of water either. In addition to the many small waterways that work their way down the slopes, people have used the water here to irrigate their fields and forests. The Wuhren, as the waterways are called here, also cool hot hiking feet. A stretch that is almost entirely in the shade, except for the end, where you can once again enjoy the distant view. Absolutely worth it 🌿
A beautiful hike where you can see almost everything that makes up the Black Forest.
