Very well signposted and many rest areas
There is something healing about forests and they smell... This weekend we had actually planned a Baasee tour with a friend, but since I (still) have neither a voice nor good hearing due to an infection, today we went out into nature alone again - in a different direction, slowly and much shorter than originally planned. In the Lieberoser terminal moraine we could also have taken Ramp 6, the Pintschens spring, the Teerofensee and more. Maybe that will come another time. 😉 The "Wilderness Trail" circular trail around the mountain lake was my highlight today. It is a very beautiful single trail, but should not be walked in rain and wind/storms. A sign warns of falling branches and the risk of slipping. Otherwise, signs warn of old ammunition etc. in this forest area, so you should not leave the paths.
On the trip to Dresden I finally caught up on this small but nice tour that I couldn't manage in August. The forest floor was very damp, but this didn't detract from the wilderness trail experience... Forest paths, single trails, small lakes, lots of information boards and very good signage for the circular route. I was lucky with the sun, when I got to the PP it started to drizzle 😅
Yesterday, in the cooler evening hours, I was still walking along the Crane Trail, and today I took advantage of the fresh morning air to explore the adjacent wilderness trail. The approximately 8km long tour starts at the forest parking lot at the Bergsee lake, continues north past the Butzener Bagen (a rewetted moor) to Lake Zieste, and then loops back again. Trails are the exception, as you mostly travel on relatively wide forest roads developed for pine forestry 😒. What's special about this tour is that it runs through a former military restricted area, where a large military training area was located, which was used by the Soviet Army after 1945 until the fall of the Wall. This legacy of a large, unbroken area offers ideal conditions for nature conservation, as you can read in this "profile." https://www.bfn.de/landschaftssteckbriefe/truppenuebungsplatz-lieberose So, you shouldn't expect too much wilderness from the newly established wilderness trail. The actual concept is that, over the years, you can observe the development of tomorrow's primeval forest here, as nature is largely left to its own devices 👍.
A really beautiful tour over mostly cloud-soft ground. Everything is easily accessible and despite the large amount of forest there are always little highlights to discover. Highly recommended for anyone who doesn't like walking long asphalt routes and is looking for a little peace and quiet away from the tourist crowds.
At the invitation of a dear hiking friend, we hiked the Lieberose Wilderness Trail today. The trail features many wide forest paths, which are unfortunately completely rutted due to logging operations. You wouldn't imagine a hike in a nature reserve to be anything but. The large Ziestesee and the narrow path around the mountain lake at the end of the trail make up for the partially rutted trails. A hike that may not be perfect, but nonetheless very beautiful.
Not much life can be seen due to the cold nights. But it's getting slow. This is a tour that certainly has its charms in every season. It is to be commended that the signage is excellent. There are also some rest areas with benches. I can only recommend the tour! And if the 8 km don't appeal to you, the Mochowsee is not far away and you can also extend the tour on various paths directly in the immediate vicinity.
Mostly doable with an all-terrain stroller (Chariot, Thule and Co), although I would skip the short detour to the Großer Ziestesee and the loop around the mountain lake. If you prefer “car-friendly” routes, you shouldn’t choose this tour 😉 We love rounds like this! 🥰
