This hike on mostly wide forest paths offers an interesting mix of nature and history. Along the Jüchnitz and the Wild Gera, some traces of former mining can be discovered. Here in the current core zone of the Thuringian Forest Biosphere Reserve, the forest has a long history of use. Now it can develop naturally again. I saved the tour from the Thuringian primeval paths of the future page, the tour went through beautiful forests, the way back downhill on narrow paths! All restaurants were closed today 😌
Unfortunately, this circular trail, which is part of the Thuringian Primeval Forest Trails, was a bit disappointing, as the trail is mostly on wide forest paths or even paved roads. Only the descent from the Hohe Warte and the Klimaweg down to Geraberg are mostly pleasant forest trails. There's also room for improvement in terms of signage. On a positive note, however, it's worth mentioning that the "Mönchshof" forest inn and the small "Mühlencafé" in the Braunsteinmühle mill were open and well attended. https://thueringer-urwaldpfade.de/routen/urwaldpfad_juechnitzgrund_-_thueringer_urwaldpfade/
A flyer drew our attention to the adventure hiking trails in Geraberg. The jungle path appealed to us and was the right length for today's hike. https://thueringer-urwaldpfade.de/ The way there led on wide forest paths to the Mönchshof. The Jüchnitz was always visible nearby. Unfortunately, this tributary to the Gera still carries very little water. The Braunsteinweg brought us closer to the former mining district. Manganese ores were mined here. In the Mönchshof we were able to enjoy a delicious lunch in the beer garden. From the Hohe Warte we often went back to Geraberg on narrow paths. We got wet for the last 1.5 km. The descent was sometimes a bit demanding. All in all, we imagined the jungle path to be a little more enchanted. All in all, a nice hike with varied forest and a number of highlights.
Nice hike, although the name raised higher expectations... the path was only a few meters long and there was no primeval forest... still worthwhile though...
Winter showed itself from its most beautiful side.
