You usually experience less on a direct route. By taking time for detours, or ‘nen Oemweg’ as they’re known in the local dialect, you’ll get to know the real Niel (the place, not the river).
The Nen Nielse Oemweg Route starts in the centre of this small town near Antwerp…

We made a deal among ourselves and decided to go out ♂️ 🚶 in Niel. First we passed Het Broek, with beautiful still lifes, to capture on the silver screen. On the dike we read several poems that all referred to the Rupel. During our trip we also saw many works of art. Always nice to notice this. We also crossed the Walenhoek after eating a sweet cake. It was wonderful to stay there and then to zoom between the Kleiputten afterwards. There you see a lot of water and you can enjoy the ducks splashing. We had a good time and the Rupel region is also coveted by us. 👍🤩
