This route was planned by komoot.
The tour comes from the brochure pleasure tours in East Belgium (see photos). A pleasure? Well, nice, you can walk, way too much asphalt. The area is historically interesting and the memorial gives a small impression of the Battle of the Bulge in WW2. My highlight today is the 4-leaf clover - that must mean something good
The focus of this hike was on the Jonnybrückchen memorial and above all on the Hasselpath memorial. The hike through the Lichtenbachtal led almost exclusively, with the exception of the Jonny Bridge (* short nature trail), over wide asphalt or paved forest roads. In terms of landscape, this hike did not offer anything special. It should be noted that part of the route is in the restricted military area. The access permit is regulated by a notice on the blocking signs. Conclusion: informative hike; no wow factor in terms of landscape; Well suited for a "Sunday stroll" with the family.
Very nice round, unfortunately my phone crashed at home and for whatever reason all the photos are gone.🙈🤷♂️ I will definitely go hiking again.
Today we went on the pleasure tour 20 just behind the Belgian border. This asphalt-heavy tour starts from the small car park on the Hasselpath. The Ardennes offensive began in the forests of the area, making it one of the hard-fought areas in World War II. Ditches and bunkers in the woods bear witness to this past. Fighting continues in the woods today, by Belgian forces at Camp Elsenborn. Warning signs indicate restricted zones and sharpshooting times. However, there was little sign of the region's military past and present on Sunday. The quiet of the forest and the solitude of the valleys soon swallowed every sound and let me immerse myself in the silence of nature. Apart from the nature of the path, I really liked the hike through quiet, lonely wooded valleys and the rippling of the idyllic Lichtenbach up to its confluence with the Olef.
The weather forecast (and will be) gray, the choice of the day fell on a more forestry walk. We will then spend most of the walk scanning the surroundings with our feet rather than the sky. The light really isn't the best for landscape photos, but the undergrowth abounds with mushrooms of all sizes, colors and varieties. A true paradise for mycologists and photographers! The few brooks and streams that we pass by are well swollen by the latest precipitation, they are "gurgling" on all sides. The paths taken are either asphalted or well stoned and very passable (even in rainy weather). We are in the middle of the forest without being locked in there all the way, there are a lot of more airy passages with some of the nicest views. With an announced length of +/-7.5 km, we will extend to 8.3 km passing by the open-air memorial "Hasselpath", which is not planned in the loop, but which nevertheless deserves to be noted. lingers there, if only for the duty of memory: "Hasselpath Memorial: Here Americans and Germans fought during World War II. Educationally valuable." Departure: “Hasselpath” Memorial parking lot: Parking for +/- 10 cars Marking: green cross Knot points: 31-38-43-32-33-31 (APN output -> photos by Caro only)
Nice tour through the woods. Unfortunately too much asphalt
Heite we crossed the border to Belgium, 700 m above sea level. Winter wonderland 😍
