My girlfriend also really wanted to see the snowdrops and so I did the tour again, just the other way around.
In beautiful sunshine, in the Hainich UNESCO World Heritage Site. The circular hiking trail starts at the Craulaer Kreuz, which is an old stone cross. The well-developed, shady path winds through beech forests. Everything looks very well maintained, there are places to sit every now and then. The whole forest looks like it has fallen into another time. Old and new stands of trees alternate. There are hardly any meters of elevation, only once it goes steadily downhill and then goes back up again via wooden stairs. The detour to the Wartburgblick is worth it if you find the right view of the Wartburg. Look past the sign on the left... then you can see the Wartburg. It took me a while to figure that out. At the end of the tour there is a rustic restaurant. With a nice landlord and very good food. Highly recommended!
Along with the Carpathians (Ukraine), the national park is one of the largest contiguous deciduous forest areas in Europe and consists mainly of primeval beeches. The hiking trails are great. After the hike you can relax wonderfully on the Alm www.hainichbaude.de 🍻. It was worth it 😊

world heritage trail A beautiful circular route through the Hainich In spring you can see a sea of wild garlic here.
I deliberately scheduled the start of today's tour for the late afternoon. The weather was announced with a change of clouds ☁️ and sun ☀️ and together with the later dawn 🌅 this should ensure a great mystical atmosphere in the jungle of the Hainich for the entire tour. And indeed, just behind the Hainich Baude, past the Craulaer Kreuz, I take my first steps into the jungle 🌳🌲 and into its very own world. Mighty tall beeches 🌳 line my path, which meanders deeper and deeper into the forest. Dead trees decay and form an interesting game of transience and new beginnings with mosses and mushrooms. From time to time the clouds ☁️ and the canopy let the sun ☀️ through, which then randomly illuminates highlights in the forest. In the meantime, after a sharp bend at the goose lawn, I have reached the ladder to heaven. A hundred steps lead me steeply up this section. Exposed roots draw bizarre shapes in the forest floor and the humid air keeps smelling the forest in my nose. 🌿🌱 Now it's not far. I enter the open country of the former military training area and make a detour along the blooming and humming meadows to the Wartburg view. Deep dark clouds ☁️ only give an idea of the castle fifteen kilometers away. On the last piece, it's already getting quite dark in the forest and the deer and I startle each other. 😮 Shortly afterwards I reach the edge of the forest and on a wide path I can comfortably return to the Craulaer Kreuz. Finally, I enjoy the wide view over fields and meadows and the Thuringian Basin in the ever-increasing twilight 🌄 and let my thoughts wander. 🌾

My friend Barbara from Hamburg is visiting and we went for a lovely walk in the east of the national park today. We took our time and had plenty of breaks. I saw the first orchid and Barbara was delighted by our sea of wild garlic. There wasn't much going on despite it being a bridge day and the weather being great. Wonderful. We'll continue tomorrow. Best wishes, Janice
