Hiking

From the car park at the Schliffkopf Hotel, you hike on this circular route through mountain heaths and unspoilt forests. On the way, wonderful distant views open up over the blue-green Black Forest hills to the Rhine plain.

The heath areas with mountain pines, blueberries and grasses that you cross are called Grinden in the Black Forest (High German: Glatzen). They are a special feature of the Black Forest National Park and an important habitat for many rare species such as capercaillie, tree pipits, mountain crickets and adders.

On the summit of the Schliffkopf, at 1000 meters above sea level, you can experience this special landscape particularly well - very atmospheric even at dusk.

Schliffkopf Summit

Highlight • Summit

The Schliffkopf is a mountain ridge sculpted by wind and ice over thousands of years. Vast, treeless wetlands known as grinden stretch across the summit region. The treeless wetlands were created in the 15th century when large areas of forest were cleared to make way for new grazing land. Intensive use led to soil compaction and waterlogging resulted in damp heathland with sparse vegetation. These so-called grinds are a characteristic part of the Black Forest landscape and the high moors and wet pastures on the Schliffkopf. In order to preserve the grinds, the heights are still grazed. The mountain is located directly on the Black Forest High Road.

We really enjoyed great weather and lots of snow on our short trip to the Black Forest.
1st destination was the Schwarzbach dam for the 2nd breakfast. (last picture)
Then we drove the Black Forest High Road to our hiking destination, the Schliffkopf.
At an altitude of around 1000m, we walked the circular route in the snow in the bright …

The Schliffkopfrundweg begins directly on the B500 at 1000 meters above sea level. The Schliffkopf offers the typical grinden vegetation, which is kept open by cattle grazing. Due to the long mountain ridge, running always stays at the same height. The way there leads on beautiful paths through the vegetation, the "way back" is a bit less attractive as a …

The most beautiful winter tour I've ever gone on with my wife, and if a picture says more than 1000 words. Addendum: Is it Please damn it please stick to the rules and not walk on closed paths or sections that are unfortunately closed for dogs to walk on with them as well.
