Hiking
This varied hike takes you to the romantically located Sankenbachsee and with an almost alpine ascent along the Sankenbach waterfall to the magical Ellbachsee. The path is signposted as one of the Baiersbronn Heaven Paths with a dragonfly marking the path.
You start at the chairlift car park, from here you follow the course of the Sankenbach stream to the deer park. Arriving at the edge of the forest, the path begins to rise slightly and leads past a forest playground to the romantic Sankenbachsee. The Sankenbachsee is one of the five cirque lakes in the municipality of Baiersbronn that were formed during the last ice age. There are over 60 clearly recognizable cirques in the Baiersbronn district. Let yourself be enchanted by the beauty of the lake during a short break on the lake shore and enjoy the impressive sight.
The rest of the route then takes you over natural paths and a moderately difficult climb to the Sankenbach waterfall. The steep cirque wall rises enormously and lets the Sankenbach fall as a 40 meter high, two-stage waterfall into the Sankenbachsee. After this impressive nature experience you will reach the waterfall hut. From here the path runs another short distance uphill to the Bucheck. You are now passing the village of Kniebis. A small detour takes you to the Kniebishütte, where you can stop off well.
The Kniebis Heimatpfad then leads you to the barrier-free Ellbachseeblick viewing platform, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Ellbachsee deep in the valley basin. Now the descent to the lake begins - an exciting section of the path that requires a certain degree of surefootedness. Arriving at the lake, you can linger on the shore and let the dark water cast a spell over you. One suspects elves or goblins behind almost every tree. It is not for nothing that legends and fairy tales have always been associated with these small cirque lakes.
From the lake, the route follows the Ellbachtal on wide paths to the green Plätzle. Arrived here, it's now a few hundred meters uphill through the forest until you see the view over Mitteltal at the edge of the forest. In a beautiful panoramic position you now hike over the winter side to the view at the Allmandblick and to the "Holzweg". This adventure trail is two and a half kilometers long and offers a lot of information about the raw material wood. A short stretch follows the course of the adventure trail to the Heuberghof. Through the Bergergrund and around the Höferköpfle you finally reach your starting point in the Sankenbachtal.

From Baiersbronn train station, I set off toward the Sankenbach Valley. At about the level of the wildlife enclosure, I came across a green dragonfly on a white background, which showed me the way. Soon, the idyllic Sankenbachsee lake appeared. The climb that followed was quite challenging. But where else do you see a self-service waterfall? Just when I thought I was at the top, I climbed even higher. On the outskirts of the village of Kniebis, there were many information boards and other great things. At the Ellbachseeblick (viewpoint), I left the trail and walked to the Kniebishütte (hut). Later, I returned to the trail. It was now a challenging descent to the Ellbachsee. Behind the Ellbachhütte, the trail was a bit asphalt-heavy, but then I was surprised by a small skywalk and a playground with a marble run. Finally, I left the trail to get back to the center. I stopped the tour at the tourist information office. However, because of the ice cream parlor next door. Including breaks, it took me 6 hours 23 minutes to walk.
Very nice, varied route, with a detour to the Kniebis Hut. There's everything from paths, root paths to wide forest paths. The sections that are asphalted don't really bother you, as the beautiful panorama distracts from them. Also fantastic views. Not to forget the two lakes and the waterfall. 😊
Wonderful, very varied and, despite the length, entertaining tour. A detour to the Kniebishütte is highly recommended.
Very nice varied hike. I enjoyed it.
Today is the 2nd tour in the Baiersbronn Heavenly Trail series. The 2-lake tour is very varied and has several highlights. The route leads through the romantic Sankenbachtal up to the Sankenbachsee. This is followed by the somewhat demanding, almost alpine ascent at the Sankenbach waterfall to the waterfall hut and further to the Ellbachseeblick. The descent on a pristine path to the idyllically situated Ellbachsee also requires surefootedness and good footwear. The route leads back to the Sankenbachtal to the starting point of the hike with beautiful views of Obertal, Mitteltal and the Murgtal.
Hike to the Sankenbachsee with ascent along the Sankenbach waterfall to the Ellbachsee and past the wooden path back to Baiersbronn. The Sankenbachsee is one of the five cirque lakes in the municipality of Baiersbronn, which were created during the last and penultimate ice age. There are over 60 clearly recognizable cirques in the Baiersbronn district. The rest of the route leads over natural paths to the Sankenbach waterfalls. The steep Karwand rises and lets the Sankenbach plunge into the Sankenbachsee as a 40 m high, two-stage waterfall. From the Wasserfallhütte, the path continues uphill to the Bucheck. We touch the village of Kniebis, where you can stop off with a small detour. The Kniebis homeland path is shared for a while, on which you finally get to the grandiose Ellbachsee view with the viewing platform. Here you can enjoy the view of the Ellbachsee lying deep in the basin. Now the descent to the Ellbachsee begins. From the lake, the route follows the Ellbachtal on wide paths to the green Plätzle. It now goes slightly uphill through the forest for a few hundred meters until the view over Mitteltal opens up at the edge of the forest. Through the Bergergrund and around the Höferköpfle you finally get back to the starting point.
Start at the car park by the game reserve. Always follow the sign with the dragonfly. First we pass the Sankenbach lake and continue up to the waterfall. Once at the top we continue towards Kniebis. Across the viewing platform down to the Elbachsee. Back at the top with a view of Mitteltal. Across the wooden path and the game reserve to the car park. Unfortunately the last tour for now 🏥🏥🏥
A tour from the Baiersbronner hiking guide. Ways: The route is a mix of everything there is on hiking trails. Those who are sure-footed should definitely take part in the adventure trail. M. E. But only in this direction. The entrance is quite steep, wet and rooty. Going down there is no fun. Highlights: - Lake Elbach - Viewing platform above the Ellbachsee - Sankenbachsee and waterfall Notable/Notable: - Baiersbronn ski jump - wooden path - Forest experience Baiersbronn If you want to use the ball in a similar way, you can get one from the machine with a 50 cent piece. - Allmand viewing platform - Ellbach fir (270 years old) Refreshment possibility: - None along the route - various at the end in Baiersbronn If you replan the tour a little, you can stop off at the Kniebis Hütte. Rest areas (table and benches): Directly at the start or end of the tour. Otherwise after approx. 4/ 5/ 9 /10 km and at the two lakes. Park: Very well possible at the hiking car park
