The tour can be flexibly adjusted along the way, so it can easily be adjusted in length to suit your own needs. After rain there are various muddy spots that have to be overcome. You can rarely leave the often narrow path because of the moor, so that the kids can rob less in the forest. The route can be doable with all-terrain buggies and a bit of skill. We would not recommend any other wheeled companions.

Somehow it was clear that I would stumble across A scary-romantic story in the High Fens 😅, so today on the day of departure we had to 27 degrees in the morning 🫣. Since we really wanted to go the way of lovers, today we were offered a completely different part of the High Fens, I was surprised how different! I always thought Moor is Moor, but far from it 🤣. But now to the tragic celebrities of the Venns, Marie and Francois. The circular route (red) to the two begins at the Fischbach chapel. The story of Francois and Marie is one of love and ultimately tragedy! On a bitterly cold January night in 1871, the young couple wanted to cross the High Fens to collect their wedding papers. Despite all warnings, they ran out into the blizzard and lost their way and froze to death! The wooden cross stands on the boundary stone and is the cross of the engaged couple, Marie is said to have died here. Francois, who went to get help, was found about 100 meters away. If you don't know the story, it's just another of countless crosses in the High Fens! But many seem to know this story, because the Croix des Fiances has become a kind of pilgrimage site in the Fens, a place of history, a place of hope for love ♥️. At least that's what they say here 😏

Monday, August 12, 2024: Weekly "BIOS" walk. It was under a scorching heat and a blazing sun that our guide of the day, Didier, took us on the Malmédy-Tourisme walk 06. The "BIOS" group consisted of 12 people, 4♀ and 8♂ including a child. Walk marked with the name "MDY06 - La Croix des Fiancés", announced at 5.8 km (on the site) and 5.9 km (on the sign at the start); RED Rectangle markings and drawing of a bird. Circuit using many forest and country paths, duckboards and still a little bit of tarmac. Distance measured with Sity Trail: 6.1 km.
