The relaxed gravel tour starts in Leichlingen on the banks of the Wupper. You can get there by train via Leichlingen station. You will reach the beautiful Murbachtal and cycle with a gentle climb on the Balkantrasse panoramic cycle path to Burg. Here you can visit Burg Castle and enjoy the great view from there with a typical Bergisch waffle.

The route back to Leichlingen takes you in varied loops following the course of the Wupper. Pretty Bergisch towns such as Balkhausen are on your way.

Places to stop:
- in Leichlingen
- in Burscheid
- in Solingen Ober- and Unterburg
- Rüdenstein restaurant (Solingen-Obenrüden)

The following parking lots are good starting points:
- Parking lot at the Balker Aue sports center (Leichlingen)
- Parking lots on Talsperrenstraße (Solingen-Burg)
- Parking lot in Unterburg (Schloßbergstraße)
- Glüder hiking parking lot
- Parking lots in Oben- and Untenrüden
- Wipperaue parking lot

Or you can take the bike bus (Leverkusen - Marienheide; May-October, weekends and public holidays), exit: Leverkusen-Pattscheid and Burscheid-Hilgen Raiffeisenplatz.

Wupper Riverside Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Very beautiful section of the Wupper. The valley soon opens up a little here and the view extends beyond the river and the forest.

Unfortunately, the small bridge over the Murbach in Diepental has been closed since the flood in July 2021. Please simply use the dam of the Diepentalsperre 400m further on to cross (as of February 2025).

Marc
September 18, 2025, Graveltour an der Wupper, hügeliges Umland und Balkantrasse 👍🚴‍♀️👌✅

What a fantastic round trip! First, we drove to Burg Castle. There was nothing going on there yet, and that was a good thing. We then continued on hiking trails along the Wupper River to Leichlingen. Along the way, we admired beautiful half-timbered houses. We continued through the Murbach Valley on gravel paths to the Balkantrasse towards Burscheid. We cycled the last 10km along the route to the starting point. Great gravel tour (not suitable for touring bikes)! A repeat factor 💯%. That was fun 👍✅🚴‍♀️👌

We drove the loop back to Wermelskirchen via the Balkan route, parking in Hünger at the Protestant church. A beautiful 52 km loop.

A short Sunday tour. Via Leichlingen to the Balkantrasse, which I follow to Wermelskirchen. There I take a short break and watch the lively activity around the car show on the Eich. The street cafes are full thanks to the sunny spring. I make my way back via Hünger and Höhrath, through the forest along the Sengbachtalsperre to Glüder, Balkhausen, Rüden and Wipperaue.
