Since 1977, the Otto-Maigler-See, created in a former open-cast mine pit of the exhausted Gotteshülfe mining area, has been one of the larger lakes in the Ville region. The 10.7 km long Otto-Maigler-Runde (“O”) trail runs predominantly along the shore and through the recultivated forest surrounding the lake. A small patch of old-growth forest remains near Burbach Monastery. #WanderBarHelfen2026
A dance around the lake in warm summer temperatures of 25°C 🤩. The witches will be happy on Walpurgis Night.

Today we went on the IVV hiking trail around the Otto Maigler See. Start and finish was in Alt Hürth. Past Burbach Monastery to the NSG Waldseen Theresia. Nice relaxed tour right on our doorstep.
A permanent IVV hiking trail leads here from Alt-Hürth to Otto Maigler See. Partly on the lake shore and above well-developed hiking trails we circle the lake. It continues through a former opencast mine "Gotteshülfe" past a cross. Here the location of the former church of Berrenrath is marked, which fell victim to opencast mining. As part of the renaturation, a very nice local recreation area was created here! We continue through the 🌳 until we eventually reach the outskirts of Alt Hürth again. We continue downhill through the town center and finally we reach our starting point again! A very nice round...! ☀️😊🥾🐑.
In nice, sunny weather we hiked around Lake Otto Maigler 🥾🥾 and followed the markings of the DVV permanent hiking trail. You can also stop off at the end at the official “Startcafé” Café Klein ☕️🍰, even if you don’t want to purchase a fabric patch as an award 😋😄!!
