Schmuggler Trail

01:20

17.7km

Mountain biking

This wonderful freeride tour follows in the footsteps of the old smugglers. You will quickly notice why they used to use this trail in the past: apart from a few cows, you will hardly meet anyone here. But always in order. Because before the trail fun begins, you can sit back and let the Silvretta cable car and the Flimjoch cable car take you from Ischgl to the start of the tour in a relaxed manner. Once at the top you enjoy the amazing view, put on your helmet and off you go!
Always following the border, the compact gravel road meanders along the mountain ridge. A lot of fitness is required - the climbs are sometimes so steep that you sometimes have to push the bike a bit. After you have passed the mountain station of the Greitspitzbahn, a top-class trail provides an incredible feeling of freedom. At over 2,700 meters, it always goes along the ridge to the Salaaser Kopf. From now on the downhill part begins.
Then a leisurely forest road takes you to the Alp Trider Sattel mountain station. Now the Flow Trail provides lots of downhill fun again and takes you to Alp Trida. Here you can let the Flimsattelbahn bring you back to the starting point of the trail. Once at the top, the Flimjoch single trail awaits you as a descent back to the Idalp.
Tip: If you want to ride one more trail, you can extend the tour with the "Duty Free Ride Laret-Samnaun", which starts at Alp Trida and leads you down to Laret. From there, the Twinliner cable car takes you back up to the Alp Trider saddle.

Alpenhaus Idalp at over 2,000 meters above sea level

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Looking for something charming and sophisticated? Then perhaps the most stylish hut in the Tyrolean Alps is the perfect choice: the modern Alpenhaus on the Idalp at an altitude of 2,300 meters. This gourmet center—one of the highest in the Alps—is just a few meters from the mountain stations of the Silvretta and Fimba cable cars. Inside, alpine flair meets sophisticated, puristic design. Cow hides, wood, and glass blend to create a harmonious and stylish ambience. The open fire in the fireplace and the beautiful mountain backdrop outside the panoramic windows invite you to linger.

Flimjochbahn Mountain Station

Highlight • Rest Area

The modern 8-seater chairlift takes you quickly and comfortably from the Idalp up to the Flimjoch at five meters per second. If you like, you can ride back down quickly and action-packed on the trail of the same name and repeat the whole thing as often as you like until you've had enough! But you can just as easily start a nice tour up here on the trails in the area. In any case, you should take the chance and enjoy the cross-border view into Switzerland: from the modern mountain station it is only a few meters to the border.

You can find information about the cable car here: ischgl.com/de/Active/Active-Winter/Skifahren/Pisten-Anlagen.

Greitspitz 2,872 meters

Highlight • Summit

If you come from the Flimjochbahn mountain station and want to go to the smuggler trail, then the Greitspitz is inevitably on your way. Until then, two solid ramps await you. If you are already completely up and running from Ischgl - respect! The last few meters will be the hardest.

But it's worth it. Gigantic views and the spectacular smuggler trail on the border ridge await you.

From the Greitspitz or from the mountain station of the Lange Wand Bahn you can see the course of the smuggler trail. This follows exactly the ridge and thus also the border between Austria and Switzerland.

At the Salaaser Kopf, the trails branch out into several variants.

Flow Trail

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

The flow trail is artificially created. The first part is characterized by roller coaster-like up and down driving. In the second part, there are many serpentines whose riparian (sloping curves) are built quite flat. Apart from a short, technical scree point, it is very easy to drive. The trail winds its way along the entire length of the Alp-Trider-Sattelbahn, it starts and ends approximately at the stations. So you can enjoy the trail several times without having to boot anything.

Flimjochtrail

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

With a total of 435 pure downhill meters, the Flimjoch trail is a new highlight in Paznaun-Ischgl. Especially if you already have some experience, the single trail is pure riding pleasure for you. With the official S2 rating, you can expect hairpin bends, steep passages and some roots and stones. The trail builders know what makes a mountain biker's heart beat faster.
