From the parking lot at Ebersbach we walked in the direction of the old border installations and continued on the patrol path to the "Ring of Remembrance" (HWN 46). There are numerous boards along the way that provide information about the period 1945-1989. In addition, some parts of the GDR border installations were preserved. For us, this path was once again very thought-provoking... We really liked the "Ring of Remembrance" as a natural work of art, even if not much is visible in the snow/winter. We walked back on the hiking trail at the Ebersbach, which unfortunately was very turbulent due to the forest vehicles. Luckily for us there was frost in the last few days, so we got to the starting point relatively dry. As a treat, there was a rendezvous with the HSB at the end... 😃
A trip back in time. There are several nice info signs in both German and English, so you can read a little about the former iron curtain.
I had been planning this for a long time and it was worth it. The resources from the border region and the small museum, well looked after and only maintained by volunteers and donations. In the museum, which is only a small room, there are some GDR crimes and a very nice and talkative gentleman from the area who does this in his free time. A lot of things are known, but one or two things were new to me. The outdoor area was also very interesting and you had a certain idea. You could climb the watchtower and you could take a ride on the Harz train, which leaves every two hours. The trees in the Harz are of course sad, they look very desolate. But it is really worthwhile and they would be very grateful for a small donation to preserve the area 😊
The planned way back along the Ebersbach was hell, more tree Mikado is not possible. 🥴

The patrol path with 7x4 holes in each concrete slab evokes uncomfortable memories. In combination with the 3m fence and a lot of free space, you automatically feel like you are being watched by the tower. The mood is almost authentic, but still incomparably peaceful. Already has an effect!
