The inner German border between the FRG and the GDR also ran through the middle of the Harz Mountains - including the length of the Eckertalsperre. Thus, the dam border area and the north-eastern shore was closely guarded. Today, only a boundary post on the dam reminds of the division…

... the final conclusion of my holiday hiking challenge 🥾🌳🌞🌲we were able to experience together again ... .laced our shoes, packed our rucksacks and off to the Harz Mountains ⛰🪨🌲..the first half to the cliff was still cloudy ... but After our extensive meal on the same, the cloud cover broke up and the second half could be enjoyed in glorious sunshine ....... the route? had everything to offer… .from the asphalt route over root / stick and 🪨 stone .. simply great ✌🏻🌞
From Bad Harzburg, take the 875 bus to the Eckertalsperre junction. To the dam wall and stamp HWN1 there. Follow the circular route up to about 3.6 km at the junction to the left in the direction of (0.8 km) Ranger station Scharfenstein HWN2 + house stamp of the ranger station. Tasty drinks and small dishes can be enjoyed on the large terrace. Take the path back a little and then turn off, follow the path to the Ecker crossing. After crossing the Ecker, follow the path over roots, wooden planks, stones back in the direction of the dam wall or bus stop at the Eckertalsperre junction (Luisenbank). 700m after the Ecker crossing there is the possibility to make a detour to the HWN19 ski monument.
Start at the parking lot just after the wheel failure. Stamp 1 picked up at the Eckertalsperre and stamp 2 at Scharfenstein, only 800 meters from the path. The participants were between 8 and 70 years old. The tour is described as demanding but very beautiful.
Explore the 16.9 km circular hike around the Eckertalsperre with a 350 m ascent. Start at the Randau waterfall, walk around the dam, stop at the Scharfenstein National Park Ranger Station, where you can enjoy a coffee and ask the ranger questions about the Harz. Then follow the Pioneer Trail back, which takes you along the dam and finally to the starting point at the waterfall. A very nice hike in cool temperatures. Highlights of the tour were the Scharfenstein and the Pionierweg.👍 The view from the Scharfenstein is simply magnificent. The Himmelsleiter is almost finished again, only the railing is missing. 👍The Pionierweg is a varied and beautiful path.
