Theme trail to "terroir f" through the Ötteltal – discover the Rhön

Today we went to Hammelburg, Franconia's oldest wine-growing town. I'd seen at @Burkhard that it was worth a detour. The hike to terroir f in Hammelburg leads along the themed trail through the Ötteltal Valley. It's a circular tour that starts at the market square in Hammelburg. We parked in the parking lot by the Saale River. The trail leads through the vineyards and the Ötteltal Nature Reserve. The destination is the terroir f viewpoint, which offers impressive panoramic views over the Saale Valley. There, you can learn more about the history and significance of Franconian wine at special listening stations. The hike combines nature experiences with regional wine culture. "terroir f" refers to magical, scenic spots in the Franconian wine country that bring Franconia's special terroir to life through landscape architecture, art, and wine culture. The term is composed of "terroir"—French for terrain or region and Latin for soil—and the lowercase "f" for Franconia. Of course, a visit to a winery is also part of the Franconian experience...

From the banks of the Saale in Hammelburg went through the city. Always steadily uphill to the traffic training area. After a little more we reached Terrior F. Viewpoint and information point in the vineyards. Plus information about wine growing. After a short break along the vineyard to the mysterious figures. The meaning of this can be found on the city of Hammelburg's homepage. In any case, you should have some surefootedness there. Then down into the valley. The plan was to run in the Saale valley. Unfortunately still partly flooded. Then straight back to the Muschelkalk slope. Also OK. Back in Hammelburg we had a cafe again. Then to the car. Great round with lots of views.

This path of mysterious figures leads through the vineyards of Hammelburg and is simply fantastic. The different figures on the route are just really great and it is a very idyllic tour with beautiful views. There are 2 different routes, a shorter one of almost 8 km and a long tour of almost 12 km. Also on the tour you can discover many other small figures of all kinds, shapes, colors and sizes if you walk very attentively and also look into trees, walls and bushes. An ideal tour to really switch off.

The circular hike is a moderately difficult hike. Good basic fitness and good footwear would be advisable. The path leads from the car park past the Wengershäusle to the Ofentalerberg vineyards and the paragliding airfield, then back down towards Hammelburg and further on the Hammelburg - Westheim mountain hiking trail, past historic vineyard walls, it offers fantastic views over the Saale valley and the surrounding villages and a view of the impressively large parabolic antennas of the Fuchsstadt earth station. Across the fields near Westheim, it continues into the Ötteltal nature reserve, further uphill to the mysterious figures on the Hammelberg, here you should not be afraid of heights, the hiking path to the figures goes directly along the edge of the slope, then to the terroir f lookout point.

A dreamy circular route with numerous meadow and forest paths. Colorful meadow flowers and rare orchids accompany you along the way. Views of the valley open up again and again.
