🥾 Thulba Valley Extra Tour Nature, history, and quiet beauty in the heart of the Rhön Mountains The Thulba Valley Extra Tour begins in Thulba and quickly leads hikers out of the village, past former farm gardens, and directly into the pristine floodplain landscape along the Thulba River. You soon enter a core zone of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve – an area left entirely to itself. 🌳🪧🐑🐏🌳 The interplay of ancient, no longer cultivated forest, the impressive piles of red sandstone (approx. 240 million years old), and the meandering course of the Thulba River create an exceptionally beautiful natural landscape. 🪧🌲 A wooden footbridge leads over the Thulba River to a sandy riverside path that runs downstream to the Reither Mill. Shortly after, you come across an old agricultural irrigation system. The trail continues through extensive floodplain meadows, past the Brühl spring and a water treading pool, until the path once again reaches the outskirts of Thulba. There, the hiking trail runs along the Mühlbach stream to the approximately 400-year-old arched bridge, where a shrine commemorates its builder, Provost Reinhard Ludwig von Dallwig. Just 150 meters further on, the waterski facility and restaurant invite you to take a relaxing break. 🤠 A gentle climb leads to the "Auraer Trift" hill, from where a wide panoramic view of the hilly Thulba Valley opens up. Through dense mixed forest, you reach a meadow above the Reither Mill – with another beautiful view. 🌾🌳🐑🌾 The return route leads downhill through an old oak and beech forest, then through small fields before returning to Thulba's market square, the starting point of the tour. A circular trail full of diversity – vibrant nature, quiet history, and sweeping views. So: Start. Slow down. Enjoy. 🌿🌞
The Thulba River meanders and loops through the southwestern Rhön Mountains. You'll encounter it repeatedly on the Thulba Valley Extra Tour. The approximately ten-kilometer-long trail follows the river, passing former farm gardens and crossing it via small footbridges. Meadows, old wayside shrines, and mills dot the route. The trail then leads back to the starting point through a wooded area with clearings offering beautiful views. [https://www.frankentourismus.de/wege/extratour_thulbataler-2886/]
A wonderful tour around the Thulba River on the "Extra Tour Thulba"...we started from the brewery by the lake in Thulba (you can also go waterskiing there in the summer). After the tour, we ate at the inn – not high-end, but solid 😁. A very beautiful tour with constantly changing views (from above, at river levels above) of the Thulba.
The Rhöner Extratour: Thulbataler only really convinced me with the second part - the trail close to the river through the rustic and very natural forest is incredibly beautiful and relaxing!!
Parked at the Hellbach car park (only 6 spaces) in Oberthulba. From there we started the guided and well-signposted Thulbataler extra tour. Along the Thulba over meadows and forest paths with panoramic views. Of course, Laika didn't miss out either and enjoyed splashing and refreshing herself in the Thulba. I was overwhelmed by nature again and filled up my energy reserves. The route is mostly in the shade (natural forest) and is therefore suitable for walking even in very hot weather. Good footwear required, some paths have boulders and roots. Plenty of rest stops along the route. It's amazing that there is something so beautiful near my home!!!!!!
If I had to rate, the Thulbataler would actually be one of my top 10 extra tours. Although there are only a few meters in altitude, there are some great views and highlights. A Franconian arched bridge, several mills, river meadows, sandstone formations in the forest, root paths and dark fir trees. All ingredients for a really great and hikeable round!
A tour to our liking. Lots of forest and water.

ATTENTION: Tour not accessible at the moment (end of February 2024)! After about 1 km there is a closure because the tour runs under a motorway bridge and this is currently being renovated. Unfortunately there was no information at the start of the tour, so we were allowed to turn back! Very annoying! 😕
