Beautiful tour for an afternoon.....worth it

An extra beautiful hike in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve. On the Platzer Kuppe, which is halfway from the Waldfenster, it can be a bit windy. However, a great overview of the Rhön awaits you there, over to the Gleichbergen in Thuringia and south to the Steigerwald.

We did the extra tour to the forest window in the best weather. It should be said that we did the tour the other way round. No matter how you do the tour, it is definitely very varied. Whether it's the views or the forest, everyone gets their money's worth on the tour. https://youtu.be/3NaS5RUuUZQ

Certainly not an extra tour in the Rhön that you would only want to hike once.

🥾 Extratour Waldfenster Expansive views, quiet forests, and Franconian moments of happiness 😄🌳 The Extratour Waldfenster is a hike for everyone who likes to look far, breathe deeply, and realize that sometimes all you need for happiness is forest, meadows, and a sandwich 🥖😉. On the southern edge of the Bavarian Rhön, this varied circular route combines tranquil nature, Franconian cultural landscape, and magnificent views – completely without haste, but with plenty of hiking joy 🌿⛰️. The starting point is the idyllic village of Waldfenster, which already sounds as if someone has built a window into nature 😄🏡. From here, the path initially leads through open meadows and fields. Especially in spring and summer, the surroundings transform into a colorful sea of flowers 🌼🌾. Bees buzz, butterflies dance through the air, and somewhere, two sheep are probably discussing the weather 🐑😂. Soon, the first magnificent view opens up over the Saale valley and the Rhön mountain ranges. At the latest here, it becomes clear: this tour is good for our eyes 👀🌄. 🌳🐑🪧🌤🐏🐑 A special highlight is the Steinwandblick (Stone Wall View). The panoramic point with a bench invites you to simply stop, drop your backpack, and pretend you personally ordered the view 😄🟑. Here, your gaze wanders far across the landscape – a perfect spot for a short break or the obligatory "I'll just take a quick photo" photoshoot 📸. Afterwards, the path leads into quiet forests 🌳. Narrow trails wind through old trees, light and shadow alternate, and the sounds of everyday life slowly disappear somewhere behind the hills. Instead, you hear bird songs, the cracking of small branches – or your own panting uphill 😅🥾. 🌳🐑🌤🌾 The route repeatedly passes small springs, historical wayside shrines, and hedgerow-lined sunken lanes – typical of the Franconian cultural landscape. The many rest stops along the way make it hard to just walk through. Somewhere, you're guaranteed to suddenly sit on a bench and think: "Actually, I could stay right here." 😄🍃 Back in Waldfenster, a short detour to the village church or, of course, a cozy stop for refreshments is worthwhile 🍺🥨. Because let's be honest: hiking makes you hungry. Very hungry 😂. 🤠🌄🌳 😄 Conclusion The Extratour Waldfenster is a wonderfully relaxed hike between forest, expansive views, and Franconian coziness. A wonderful hike in the Upper Bavarian Rhön. The extra tour Waldfenster is full of shady forest paths. On the Platzer Kuppe (737 m) you have a fantastic view and there are many benches where you can rest and relax. At this time of year, the many flower-filled meadows add that special something to this wonderful circular walk.

Again a beautiful, varied "extra tour" with mostly small forest and meadow paths, partly sun, partly shade and after the last rainy days we had ideal hiking weather. However, we "cut off" the town of Waldfenster from the original tour because it didn't seem particularly interesting to us when we drove through.
