This tour is a wonderful introduction to the world of legendary Black Forest training passes. For trained cyclists from Freiburg and the surrounding area, the tour offers the perfect after-work ride. You climb the Schauinsland, Freiburg's local mountain, which, with a good 15-kilometer climb of almost 1,000 meters in altitude, is certainly a sporting challenge.
You start in Himmelreich at the train station and cycle easily before you start the sweaty climb. Alternatively, you can also start in Kirchzarten and shorten the tour a bit. Once at the top, the finest Black Forest panorama awaits you. Then it goes rapidly downhill in steep hairpin bends and you roll back to the starting point with relish.

Perfect day for an after-work lap on the Schauinsland 😍 We didn't leave until around 7.30 p.m., so the light was terrific! Uphill we drove up the classic route of the Schauinslandkönig, then we went downhill via Hofsgrund and Oberried back to Freiburg. It's just so so cool what you can do here in the evening 😍 I just love Freiburg!
There was no "looking out into the countryside" today - in the fog and rain we at least had the road largely to ourselves. Only the birdsong completely escalated. Ar...cold descent to Oberried - Becca arrived at the bottom frozen and had a whole body tremor, even her bike was shaking.🥶 But that's just how it is in late autumn ;)
The Schaui had to be again this year. Always gigantic. On the descent I finally dared to let it run: 73.4 km / h top :-) Totally crazy, but so cool 🤪 Fast into the new year ...
Rode along for the first time, okay I've only been riding my racing bike for 2.5 years 😅 it was really a cool experience but also very hot and exhausting. But hey, I was there and improved my best time by 12 minutes 🕺
Another tour was actually planned but ended with water in the shoes despite overcoats and aquaplaning after the Schaui 😑
Nice tour in the morning, upstairs with a view of the fan mile (SC get the pot! 🏆) and a delicious reward at Café Steimle in Oberried.
Always a challenge, even if not nearly as strong as the Kandel from Waldkirch.
The Schauinsland in the Black Forest is the local mountain of Freiburg im Breisgau at 1283.9 m above sea level and is a tourist destination. It used to be called "Erzkasten" because of the silver mining; the name "Schouwesland" first appeared in 1347. It is located around ten kilometers southeast of Freiburg city center.
