Beast of Burden climb — Bike Park Wales

Mountain biking

Beast of Burden is the main singletrack climb to get to the trailhead at the top of the hill (Myndd Gethin) at Bike Park Wales, if you're choosing to pedal up rather than using the uplift shuttles.

This 4.6-kilometre (2.8-mile) climb takes in plenty of singletrack to keep you focussed, with a few features along the way. Expect to take around 40 minutes on this climb.

If you fancy a more direct ascent, you can half the distance and ramp up the gradient accordingly by following the C5 route (komoot.com/tour/631670425). Unless you really love steep climbs, I'd say this is one best left for the e-bikers.

BikePark Wales Trail Centre

Highlight • Cafe

This is the central hub of Bike Park Wales, with the ticketing office where you can pick up your day pass (pedal up or uplift), a fantastic café, a bike shop with a workshop and bike hire and a pump track.

Handily, there are a few bike racks and plenty of seating here too, as well as a bike wash so you can take your bike home looking fresh! My go-to are the loaded fries for lunchtime, and they make a pretty mean hot chocolate too.

Beast of Burden Climb Final Stretch

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

You've made it this far, now for the final stretch! If you're doing a pedal up day and using the Beast of Burden climb, then this will come as a welcome sight. It's a fairly mellow track to help you get to the top of the trails more easily, but you'll still have to put the work in.

Let yourself be distracted up here by the heather and gorgeous views instead!

BikePark Wales Trailhead

Highlight • Viewpoint

Top of Bike Park Wales, there is a huge variation of trails starting here, green, blues, reds and blacks. There is something for everyone. However you will need a day pass to ride in the park.
