Along beautiful field and meadow paths you climb steadily towards Westerberg, through the vineyards with wonderful views of the autumnal vine leaves. 🍂🍇 If the Hiwwel ruff works, so does the Hiwwel widder runner. ⛰️ On the way back into the valley past many horse paddocks, the Selzbach accompanies you back to your destination.
Today we went to the Hiwweltour Westerberg. We started at the Groß-Winternheim car park. Wonderful tour with many beautiful distant views. Here is the tour in video: https://www.relive.cc/view/vNOPooYeV2v
Today, when the weather was pretty nice, we went to the other side of the Rhine to Rheinhessen to run the Hiwweltour Westerberg again. It was a bit muddy, but we really liked the beautiful landscape and the tour guide. Have a nice weekend 🙋🏼♂️
Großwinternheim, belonging to Ingelheim am Rhein with almost 1500 inhabitants, was the residence of many nobles in the Middle Ages. However, the name comes from the Germanic period, when the local area was a large winter camp for many tribes. The Selz flows past to the west, behind which rises the Westerberg. There is only a little forest in the district, but arable and fruit growing, a little wine growing and meadows. Unfortunately, I was not able to explore the village character and the so-called Selztaldom, because something completely unexpected came up. Before the tour, I only had two wishes, first: to see a poppy field, because Andrea H. showed these amazing photos of poppy fields on her Langenlonsheim tour (and yes, this place actually exists 😄). Second: If you do, then get wet towards the end of the tour. This wish was due to the highly dramatic looking clouds. On the last few kilometers it started to drizzle slightly; - how wonderful! Feeling raindrops on bare skin is almost like showering under the open sky – that hasn't existed for a long time. Immediately after the luxury rest area with a Vinomat and a filled refrigerator from the Schuck winery, it really started and in no time I was soaked to the skin and my belongings completely soaked - it can happen that quickly... but I'm happy for nature, the can use it well 🌧 And so both wishes have come true 🍀 The Hiwweltour Westerberg offers little shade, but beautiful views, some ravines and many horses. You won't find any springy paths. This tour is particularly suitable for groups who focus more on storytelling than on finding the way, as it is almost impossible to get lost due to the good signage. From the 🅿️arkplatz at the sports field there are even more circular routes than the Selztalrunde, the GW-Panorama-Runde, etc. There is also a lot to do nearby, just take a look: https://www.ingelheim-erleben.de/ hiking trails
Meeting point "Eulenmühlchen" at the Selzbach in Großwinternheim for the afternoon walk 🦮. There the Hiwweltour Westerberg passes. Selz, meadows, wine, Westerhaus Castle and historic ravines - a beautiful and varied round has resulted. Human and dog happy. 🤩
Last night we decided to do the Hiwweltour Westerberg (we're still missing a few - the ones we did can be found at https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/1065604/-hiwweltouren-vitaltouren). Shortly before going to bed we sent @Veronika 2020 a message because she doesn't live far away. We spontaneously agreed to do the tour together this morning. Most Hiwweltouren aren't very spectacular. Today we mainly went through the vineyards with a few views towards Rheinhessen and Rheingau. You could also see the Hohe Wurzel and the Großer Feldberg. But as we already wrote to Veronika, with nice company even unspectacular tours are nice.
A very scenic hike: first along meadows next to the Selz, then over the stream and slowly rising through fields and finally vineyards, it gets steeper and steeper, except for a kind of high plateau with fields and even forest again! At Westerhaus Castle, it then goes downhill again through vineyards and rapeseed fields down to Selz, where you get back to the starting point along paddocks.

A relaxed walk in less than three hours through the Selztal. We started at the Groß-Winternheim sports field and then walked towards Schwabenheim. On the way you could enjoy well-chilled wine and secco twice, which was provided for self-service by wineries. The tour is not particularly strenuous and
