This lovely 2.4-mile (3.8 km) walk offers you sweeping panoramas of Lyme Bay in the south of Dorset. Starting at the National Trust’s Cogden Beach car park on the B3157, this route takes you along the clifftop to Burton Beach, just below the charming village of Burton Bradstock. You then return along the beach, listening to the waves gently lapping the shore.
You’ll find the car park immediately off the road and as soon as you get out of the car, the views are already exceptional.
1: Take the easterly path of the two leading towards the sea from the car park and follow it until you reach the edge of the shingle.
2: Turn right (west) and follow the trail along the edge of the beach and then gently uphill, as it takes you onto the low clifftop. Follow this all the way to Burton Beach.
3: If you’re looking for a bite to eat, there’s a beach cafe here or you can take a detour up the hill to Burton Bradstock.
4: When you’re ready, simply head east along the beach until you reach the path heading directly up to the car park. This path appears before the one you originally descended on.
