#movementhelps... does anyone know whether altitude also counts 🤭❓... the lowland Tyroleans have a huge advantage... Frank is at work today, so I'm going alone. It shouldn't be a long journey, so today we went to Assmannshausen on the red wine route. The great thing about winter here is that you can park for free everywhere.
🎨🖌It doesn't get more romantic than this: Welcome to Assmannshausen, a picturesque town on the Rhine🎨🖌. Here, the Rhine Valley shows its best side – a picturesque part of the cultural landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley🎨🖌. Assmannshausen is a small, picturesque town on the Rhine, in the northwesternmost corner of Hesse📍. With 75 hectares of vineyards, this wine-growing community boasts the largest contiguous Pinot Noir vineyard area in Germany🇩🇪. The red wine tradition in Assmannshausen dates back to the town's founding in 1108. Assmannshäuser Rote is particularly famous because the vines grow on sun-drenched, steep slopes directly above the Rhine, whose slate-rich soil produces a particularly elegant wine. Cozy wine taverns, elegant restaurants, and romantic pergola terraces tempt you to rave about Assmannshäuser Spätburgunder🍷 - one of the best German red wines🍷 - 🥰.
Normally, when I go hiking, the motto for me is "the more pathetic and challenging the better". This is different with this tour, which scores with views of the Middle Rhine Valley and the many wild herbs along the way. The paths, on the other hand, are wide and partly paved (typical vineyard paths), which makes the hike even suitable for buggies. Still, it doesn't get boring, especially if you follow the many information boards about the wild herbs that occur and then go on a herb hunt. Oregano and fennel can currently be found on every corner and it won't be long before the blackberries are ripe too. PS: The circular route is signposted as the "Assmannshausener Rotweinwanderweg" as well as the "Kräuterwind Wildkräuterwanderweg".
Although Silke didn't finish work on time again today and wasn't home shortly after 1 p.m., we still went for an "after-work walk". On June 16th we wanted to walk the red wine trail together after Silke had already explored it alone at the end of January, but had to stop halfway. This time we started with the loop through the Niederwald at the hunting lodge. Back at the valley station of the chairlift we went up to Höllenberg. Here we decided to add the Höllental loop. There was a "party" at the Rotweinlaube. A 60th birthday was being celebrated here. From the Rotweinlaube we return to Assmannshausen in an unspectacular winding path. We took a short detour to the boat docks, then went back to the car and started the short drive home.
