When Susanne called and asked if we could go hiking together again, I was immediately enthusiastic. Only one thing was important to me this time: no athletic feat, but a leisurely hike with plenty of views, time to chat – and perhaps a cozy stop at a mountain hut. It quickly became clear: a winter/spring hike on the Kranzberg above Mittenwald with views of the Karwendel mountains was the plan. Even at the start, there was that special atmosphere in the air, as winter slowly gives way to spring. The sun already had some strength, but patches of snow still glittered in the shady sections. Our path first led us up to the Gröbl-Alm. The climb was pleasant, just right to warm up without getting out of breath. We frequently stopped, turned around, and enjoyed the expansive view over Mittenwald and the rugged Karwendel peaks. Passing the "Schafstadl" (sheep barn), we continued towards the Wildensee mountain inn. The trail was easily walkable, partly still packed down from winter, partly already dry – this mix is what makes a winter/spring hike so appealing to me. Behind the mountain inn, a narrow but easy path branched off, leading us up the north face to the summit of the Hoher Kranzberg (1,391 m). Reaching the top, we were rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view: snow-covered peaks, frozen lakes far below, and above it all, a brilliant blue sky – exactly as we had hoped. The descent along the sunny south side felt almost like spring. We soon reached the idyllic Ferchensee. It was still too icy for swimming, but the first brave souls were already sitting on the shore in the sun. We continued on to the slightly lower Lautersee, where we refreshed ourselves on the sunny terrace – a perfect spot for a short break. The final climb up to the St. Anton mountain inn required a bit more effort, but as everyone knows, good conversation makes every meter of elevation gain go by faster. Via the Korbinianhütte at about 1,200 meters, we finally reached the footpath leading to the valley station of the Kranzberg chairlift. Happy, refreshed, and with rosy cheeks, we arrived back down. It was exactly the kind of hike I had hoped for: scenic, varied, and enjoyable – a perfect blend of winter and spring, of activity and relaxation. And above all: a wonderful day with Susanne in the mountains...
Dear hiker! You have reached the summit of the mountain. Perhaps the path has tired you and you are out of breath. But now you are here. You have arrived. Take a deep breath and rejoice. Let go of everything that weighs you down. Look around, direct your gaze into the distance. Seen from above, some things lose their significance. Find a place to rest, relax, and enjoy. We set off early today, as temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius were forecast again. Our goal was the Kranzberg, at almost 1,400 meters. We first headed through Mittenwald's old town toward the Gröblalm and then continued to the Willenserklärung, always climbing. From there, we reached the highest point of the tour, the Hoher Kranzberg. A stunning 360-degree panoramic view rewarded us for the climb. The second half was more or less all downhill. We crossed the Ferchensee and Lautersee lakes into the Laintal valley and followed the waterfall trail back to Mittenwald. By then, the thermometer had climbed back up to 30 degrees Celsius, and the ice cream at the end was well-deserved.
Weather forecast LA: gray 😣foggy😶🌫️cool⬇️ I WANT SUN🌞 Destination: mountains🏔️ it's definitely there; the lovely 🌞🌞🌞 So to Mittenwald and up the high Kranzberg. Started at the Kranzberg chairlift car park and via Stonehenge 🪨🪨 from Mittenwald through the Laintal with waterfall to the Lautersee. Yippee, blue sky, sun 🌞 and almost 20 degrees. That's what I call happyness😍🥳😍 On to lake number two: Ferchensee. Lying there, slightly mystical. With its last delicate wisps of fog drifting in. From the air with a drone, then simply a dream🤩😍🤩 Enjoyed an espresso and from now on only uphill, to the Kranzberg summit. Dream path and dream views👌that's why it took longer again🙈 Once at the top, grabbed one of the mega deck chairs and enjoyed the 360 degree panoramic view🤩😍🤩 Then we went down on the other side over lake number three, the Wildensee, back to Mittenwald. Took the evening sun 🌞and Mittenwald at night with us too. Conclusion: goal achieved. 🙃Dream day with found sun🌞🌞now I can sleep contentedly 😴go🤗
This hike is perfect for both summer and winter, with spectacular views, good eating possibilities along the way and no technical difficulties.
A wonderful hike with breathtaking views and no particular difficulties on the route. A classic to be repeated with pleasure and a wonderful experience every time
One of the most beautiful hikes I have ever done. 🥰
From Mittenwald we took the chairlift to St. Anton at a leisurely pace. The Wildensee was our next destination. Unfortunately the mountains were covered in thick cotton wool all day, but it was dry and the temperature was pleasant for walking. The hiking trail then continued through a military restricted area, but that was no problem. The path went steadily uphill, first steeply, then moderately uphill to the summit. The backpack snack bar worked well and then we went steadily downhill, past Lautersee, where we had a little refreshment, and then above Ferchensee. Only the restaurant by the pool was open. For the descent to Mittenwald we chose the Laintal, which I had explored the previous evening but which my husband didn't know yet.
