Steffen | WanderFEELING
October 4, 2024, Gemütliche Drei-Seen-Runde zwischen der Zugspitze und dem Karwendel (RB Klais – RB Klais)

[Hiking on September 24th] This relaxed round trip between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald offers three charming mountain lakes with bathing opportunities. From Klais station, which according to the inscription is the highest station in Bavaria, I follow the tracks of the Mittenwaldbahn for a while before passing under the country road into the village of Gerold and the idyllic Geroldsee. The haystacks that are so typical of this area stand on the green meadows in front of the wooded mountain slopes, further to the west the Zugspitze massif can be seen, while the mighty Karwendel mountains rise much closer towards Mittenwald. I hike through the charming, slightly hilly landscape with a mixture of meadows and forests to Barmsee, the largest and perhaps most impressive of the three lakes. Behind the bathing meadow, the path leaves the lake shore and leads around a moorland area to the Barmsee holiday hotel. The small Grubsee is almost around the corner. In summer, however, it is only accessible via the bathing establishment, which is why hikers have to take a detour around the lake. But now, outside of the bathing season, I can stay by the water and return directly to Klais through the open rear gate. --- This hike ends (for now 😉) the trip to the mountains. Of course, it is also included in the new collection »Easy hikes by train and bus in the Bavarian Alps«: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/3110310/

Today used the overcast weather 🍀 for an easy tour 👍

A varied hike on mostly easy paths past the Bramsee, Geroldsee and Grubsee. The path has short, moderate inclines. Refreshments possible along the way in Krais and at the start and end points in Krün.

Since I often travel on paths where there are a lot of cyclists, not all of whom announce their arrival, I wouldn't recommend walking the route with dogs. In summer, there's not enough shade along the route if you want to walk with your dog anyway.

After Batman gave us the tip yesterday...get out of Elba...there's going to be a lot of rain...we drove through to Krün. We actually wanted to go to the Dolomites or the Texel Mountains...but the weather was only good here. Yes, it's not that spectacular, but autumn with sunshine is just more beautiful...we jumped into the water out of joy. So be careful of the full moon twice in the middle of the day😜

Krün town center - forest in the direction of Barmsee - Barmsee - Geroldsee - Gerold - Klais - Grubsee - Barmsee (town) - Krün town center

Very nice tour, can be done without poles. There are two steep mountains, please wear good shoes. Parking fee for 1 day 5€.

Today's tour ran in the valley and led us first to the Barmsee, then to the Geroldse and finally to the Grubsee. The path leads steadily up and down, sometimes through the forest, sometimes over fields and meadows; Part of the way back is via the bike / footpath on the B2, but there is still enough meadow and the railroad track in between. The first two lakes have many and beautiful bathing areas, the third is an outdoor pool with a slide. So take your bathing suit with you if the weather permits 😎
