Especially with children and dogs who love to climb, essential to visit. It's worth it.

Also called parsley. Nicely done. With a historical background.

A beautiful and wild place in the Gregnitz Valley, where you can find some beaver buildings. There is also a bank here - for a well-deserved break during the hike or bike tour.

Even though the weather wasn't very inviting 🌧️ I still went. Every free day deserves to be used. Of course I also wanted to see and experience something beautiful. I wanted to see the Teutsches Paradeiss. A route that has something to offer for every taste. There are forest paths, meadow paths and asphalt paths. The most beautiful place was at Nageler See.

Unfortunately, there were too many roads for me, I would have liked more small forest paths

If you're already in the Fichtelgebirge you can also go on a hike there and so I've added a smaller tour😉😉. I really liked this hike 👍👍👍

That was the first REAL winter hike for this winter 2024/25! With a relatively large amount of snow under our feet, we set off today to the "Teutsches Paradeiss", a circular hiking trail around the herb village of Nagel. The special thing about this trail is that there are actually four of them - a large loop of around 16 kilometers and three small circular hikes of around five to six kilometers each, each with a different focus. Numerous information boards in German and Czech set up along the trails allow you to focus on the topics - landscape created by humans, - on the trail of animals and - flowers and myths. The name "Teutsches Paradeiss" had been familiar to me for a long time because I had already walked through Nagel and the surrounding area on my hikes on the Franconian Mountain Trail and the Quellenweg (which is one of the main hiking trails of the Fichtelgebirgsverein). However, it has taken me until today to look into it in more detail, not least because the FGV Oberkotzau local association has the “Paradeiss” in its program next year. But where does this name come from? A flyer with the title “Das Teutsche Paradeiss – German-Czech landscape adventure trail around the municipality of Nagel” provides information: “In 1692, the master and pastor Johann Will from Creußen traveled through the Fichtelgebirge. He recorded his impressions in a book, which he titled ‘Das Teutsche Paradeiß’. Will came to the conclusion that the Fichtelgebirge in many ways resembles the descriptions of the Garden of Eden from the Bible. Nagel is a very old place for the Fichtelgebirge. The name probably comes from early medieval Slavic settlers who founded a village here in the ‘naklo’, in a swampy area. At least since the Middle Ages, people, animals and plants have lived together in this landscape. They use the habitat together and influence each other. The living conditions for people here have always been very hard. The soil and climate made life difficult for farmers. The farms were small, the yields low. The fields were divided into small plots. This created a richly structured cultural landscape with field margins, hedges and wet meadows. This is why Nagel is THE municipality in the Wunsiedel district with the highest proportion of protected areas according to the European FFH Directive (Flora-Fauna-Habitat). This landscape, as Magister Will once experienced and described it, has been preserved around Nagel and its districts to this day. It is truly a paradise. For rare plant and animal species and of course also for the people who can relax in it." The individual themed hiking trails are marked in red, blue and yellow and are practically surrounded and connected by a green circle. You can also "circle" the themed hiking trails and then walk the 16 kilometers indicated above. I really liked what we walked today and, independently of the Fichtelgebirge Association, I am thinking of hiking the entire "Das Teutsche Paradeiss" next year. http://www.bayern-fichtelgebirge.de/heimatkunde/097.htm https://www.fgv-nagel.com/paradei%C3%9F We treated ourselves to a stop in Reichenbach at the Gasthof Zur Kösseine. https://www.fichtelgebirge.bayern/detail/id=5f7b14992e9cd761e171a791_327
