Hiking

The almost eleven kilometer long Thiesenring takes you to the best places around Bad Berneck. There are some viewpoints, a castle ruin and lots of wonderful nature. It is not for nothing that it is considered to be one of the most beautiful hiking trails in northern Bavaria. But just convince yourself.

It starts at the parking lot at the Anger in Bad Berneck, which can also be reached by public transport via Bayreuth. Sturdy shoes - because that's what you need for this hike - will take you over the Sonnenweg, the Hohe Warte and finally over the Kirchleite into the Knodental. The Schlossleitenweg then takes you further into the idyllic Ölschnitztal valley. Past several promising rocks, where you should definitely enjoy the panorama for a short time, you finally hike along Siemensstraße to the Iron Age and from there via the Gärtnereiweg back to the starting point.

This way it goes up and down again and again. Its vantage points such as the Castel Sant'Angelo, the Thiesen and Ludwigsfelsen, but also the idyllic resting places and historical sites along the way are definitely worth the little effort.

Bad Berneck is also known as Burgenland for a reason. There are a total of six fortifications in and around Bad Berneck, which give visitors a touch of the Middle Ages. Only a short detour from here are three of the Bad Berneck castles.

The Thiesenfelsen was named after a generous patron of the city of Berneck, the Berlin print shop owner Carl Thiesen.
Originally, Carl Thiesen got to know and love the city as a spa guest; later he spent his old age here with his wife Elisabeth. Carl Thiesen bequeathed his fortune to the city to support the expansion of the spa in Berneck - because the spa stays in Berneck had done him so well and he wanted to make this experience possible for others. Unfortunately, most of his cash foundation of 120,000 gold marks fell victim to inflation. In addition to the Thiesen Villa, he also donated a weather house, for example: In his day it was an extremely expensive, technologically complex weather station that was used to enable spa guests to better determine the weather. The weather station can still be found today above the market square.
In 1909 Thiesen was made an honorary citizen of Berneck.

A beautiful park that is divided into several levels. There is something to discover here in every season. On hot days it is nice and shady and cool. There are trees and shrubs from all over the world here. Wilhelm Rother, the owner of the site, brought the seeds from his travels and planted the garden. He took care of the facility until his death. Really nice there. Definitely visit.

August 14, 2023, 🌲⛰️ Bad Berneck: Thiesenring ⭐️⭐️⭐️

https://www.thiesenring.de/ The tour is considered one of the most beautiful in the area - I won't be able to judge that until the end of the holiday, but I can say this much: I really liked it! The path runs on the heights around Bad Berneck, mainly on paths or forest paths, partly overgrown with grass. At the turning point, we descend into the valley of the Ölschnitz, a number of brooks also cross our path. There are some lookout rocks along the way, but unfortunately the view from many is very overgrown. In the case of a highlight, someone wrote that Bad Berneck lay there like on a model railway platform - that's what the old spa town actually looks like! We will explore the castles of Bad Berneck, the town itself and the dendrological garden separately, but this could be partially added to the tour.

On the way on the Thiesenweg in Bad Berneck. Nice sporty round. Steady up and down. Beautiful paths or paths. Always beautiful views. Good shoes and sure-footedness would be good. take food with you. Nothing stop on the way. The observation tower Hohe Warte no longer exists. Hohenberneck castle ruins closed due to construction work.

I copied the tour 1:1. It's challenging, through the increases. What I found very good: Route very well signposted, every 500m benches, meadow mowed short at the edge of the forest, so great to hike. Definitely recommend.

A lovely route for dog owners (except for the short stretch near the war memorial) and for barefoot hikers. Lots of trails and viewpoints as well as streams provide variety.

A recommended tour, beautiful paths and views. Take drinks and provisions with you as there are no pubs along the way.

At the beginning there was a diversion due to construction work, unfortunately a short section had turned into an ugly gravel path due to quarry expansion.

Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted the tour I had taken instead of the planned tour. She was gone, with all the picture descriptions and highlights. Once the tour has been deleted, you probably can't get it back. There were 360 meters in altitude and the running time was 2 hours and 40 minutes. Reconstructed as best as possible - as the very nice tour actually was.

Maybe you should save this tour for a snow-free time 🤣
