Hiking
Anyone who says Hohe Tauern National Park must inevitably also say Krimml Waterfalls. Because they are certainly among the most spectacular and therefore best-known sights in the entire high mountain landscape. On this path you can experience the phenomenon “Europe's largest waterfalls and natural healing resources” in all its glory.
It starts at the ticket office of the Krimml Waterfalls. If you arrive by public transport, a bus will take you here directly. Once you have "checked in", you can take a short first detour down to the lowest waterfall level, the Kürsingerplatz. There you can really feel the power of water (and the associated drizzle). Then you hike uphill again to Gasthof Hanke and from there always follow the lookout path.
It's a good two and a half kilometers from here, steadily uphill. But you will hardly notice that. Because the viewing platforms that are waiting on the way give you magnificent views of the roaring, powerfully plunging water masses. Only from Gasthof Schönangerl does the path become a little flatter. So you climb up to the top waterfall step and on to the Schettbrücke, with the spectacular nature experiences never ending.
Sooner or later the walk leads to a driveway and you walk comfortably back out of the valley. Sure-footedness is only required on the Alter Tauernweg. Then you will soon be back at your starting point.

Circular route at the Krimml waterfalls. They are the largest waterfalls in Europe. Very impressive👍
A great round with breathtaking perspectives. The first part of the trail is steeply uphill on well-maintained trails. Hiking poles can help here conditionally. The tunnel at the top is 300m long and not illuminated. A cell phone light doesn't really help. An exciting experience to go through. Then the descent begins, initially on very well-developed paths. From the middle it then goes over the old Tauernweg. Only well-tested hikers with alpine experience should decide to do this, as the path is very rocky and, depending on the weather, also has its challenges. However, there are alternatives, just walk straight ahead at the waypoint of the trail, then get back to the other side of the water and walk the rest of the way back there on the same path used for part of the ascent. If you want to use the hiking trail on the descent, you should definitely put on hiking boots. All other paths can also be walked with any other footwear.
142 pictures 😂🤣, had to be today. One of the highest waterfalls in Europe. And didn't take the tourist route back but the path that the Celts built in 2000 BC.
After crossing the Gernot Pass, a visit to the fifth highest waterfalls in Europe including the exhibition "Water Wonder World".
I walked the circular route. I was out very early and therefore there were few tourists who also walked this route. Many only went as far as the Scheitbrücke and turned back there. I continued through the Alpweg tunnel, however, over the forest road or the cycle path from the Tauern Cycle Path. At the Scheitbrücke you come back to the path you had already walked up. There were already quite a few crowds of people walking around, but they were going up. I was on my way back. I bought myself a Tyrolean Gröst'l from the innkeeper. Then I drove to Kitzbühel, but didn't record my walk there. The Krimml Waterfalls are a real special feature in the Tauern Cycle Path region. On the four-kilometer-long waterfall paths you can enjoy the impressive surroundings on secured paths. These are the only natural monument in Austria that was awarded the Council of Europe's nature conservation diploma in 1967 and impresses with their breathtaking volume of water. In one second, up to 40,000 liters of water plunge 380 meters into the depths. You can watch the water cascading down from the observation platform. The cool glacier water comes from the Krimmler Ache, which is fed by 17 mountain streams. The Krimml Waterfalls are definitely a highlight of your vacation. The impressive natural spectacle in the Hohe Tauern National Park is a popular excursion destination for guests of all ages. Furthermore, hiking in the Krimml Waterfalls is very healthy. Scientific studies have even shown that proximity to the waterfalls has a positive effect on well-being and health. This is due to the high concentration of negative air ions in the air around the waterfall. These stimulate the immune system and lead to an improvement in the respiratory tract. So a visit to the Krimml Waterfalls is not only healthy for allergy sufferers and asthmatics, but a special experience for everyone! I walked the circular route. Our destination today was the Krimml Waterfalls. They are among the largest in Europe. The path winds through the forest along the slope, offering spectacular views of the waterfall from its viewing platforms. Once at the top, we chose the return route through the Alpsweg Tunnel and the Alter Tauernweg on the other side. This route has various sections, alternating between root-covered paths, a streambed, and larger rocky passages. There's also a great view of the waterfall from the side. Finally, we passed the therapy center for asthmatics and allergy sufferers. We also visited the Water Worlds. Very interesting information about water droplets and ice flakes.
Today we decided to do a smaller round due to the little dog's exhaustion. The ascent was unfortunately heavily influenced by tourism, unfortunately almost overcrowded in places. On the other hand, we really enjoyed the challenging descent over the old Tauernweg in peace. 😊 That would have been difficult to do even in sneakers or flip flops. 😅
