What can I say! OK, it's not exactly the prettiest, but it's not the worst Rothaarsteig trail either. Nevertheless, we had hoped for a little more! It's definitely advisable to walk the trail clockwise, as we did. It's beautiful at the Wiesenthütte, and if you want, you can also visit the Wisent World there. Back, just after the hunting lodge, this trail mainly runs straight downhill over wide forest paths and cleared areas. OK, it certainly looked better in the past, and there's nothing you can do about the felled trees that fell victim to the beetle....... But somehow we had hoped for a little more in general! See you soon, your Bruno 🐾🐾 https://blb-tourismus.de/de/tour/wanderung/wisent-pfad-rothaarsteig-spur-tierisches-wandervergnuegen/11415949/ https://www.nrw-tourismus.de/wisent-welt-wittgenstein#wisentweltwittgenstein
Beautiful hike on small paths and varied.
The trail leads directly past our current accommodation - so we started directly from the hotel. Sometimes paths, sometimes wider paths, sometimes sunny, sometimes shady. If you want to spot a bison made of more than just iron or wood, you should do the additional 3-kilometer loop through the bison enclosure (entrance with the Sauerland Card is only €2 instead of €7.50). We only had a sip 😉😁 and then went for another lap in the hotel pool. Today we had an observation that would have been hard to top anyway... 🐗🐄
Today, unfortunately, was our last hike in the Sauerland for the time being. 😢 From Wingeshausen, we followed the Wisent Trail. From a distance, we even spotted a herd of bison in the Wisent Wilderness. Numerous birds could be heard, and some were even clearly visible. In addition to robins, tits, and blackbirds, there were also rarer specimens. The trails were very easy to walk, and the elevation gain was limited. A gentle end to the hike – for now 😉
At -1° and fog, we walked the excellently signposted Wisent path for the second time to the right. The fog prevented us from seeing far away, but beautiful ice formations were growing on all kinds of trees.
Hiking day! 🥳 You can't go wrong with a Rothaarsteig trail - and the Wisent Trail is no exception! Well-marked, beautiful paths and lots of trails. Having already walked most of the route at some point, we stuck strictly to the route today. I really liked the previously unknown part up at the hunting lodge. At the end we had coffee and waffles in the Sonnenhof, a good decision!
I haven't been on such a beautiful hike in a long time. Wonderful paths, trails, and so many great little sights. And then there's the thriving nature... absolutely recommended!
Really nice, well signposted circular hike! Originally we had planned to visit the bison enclosure as well, but dogs are not allowed there (and that's absolutely ok too!). After our tour we drove back to the bison hut. The wisent hut is a very nice place to stop for refreshments, located directly on the Rothaarsteig trail wisent path. We received a very warm welcome here! You can sit either in the modern-rustic dining room or outside with a view of the wonderful landscape. A little tip: the potato pancakes with apple sauce are vegan. ♥️
