A little rougher and more technical than the Mach 1 loop, Mach 2 packs in some more climbs to the south of Machynlleth with a real range of terrain from grassy farmland bridleways to gravel roads and singletrack.
The start of the Mach 2 loop mirrors the other loops, out through the golf course to Forge and climbing gently on the lanes. Then you turn left to join a bridleway around the peak of Commins Pant-glâs, which is a gravel doubletrack up through the grassy fields.
After you’ve regained your breath at the top of the climb, a steep slate chute is up next, down through the woods and into the valley. Rejoin gravel tracks as you zig-zag up through the woods, then up into the open before a steeper stretch.
The effort is well worth it though, as it leads to the most sublime gravel balcony road in the Llyfnant Valley. Enjoy the views as you sail along the wide track.
Mach 2 concludes with a descent over the moorland on wide gravel tracks and some singletrack down to a lane which leads to the main road to Mach. You can pick up the cycle lane to avoid the traffic on the main road as you pedal back into the town.
