Hiking

This beautiful circular hike takes you around the four Thierberg lakes northwest of Kufstein. Starting from Kufstein train station, you first walk through the Zell district in a north-westerly direction. Then you hike through magnificent beech and fir forests to Pfrillsee, a beautiful small bathing lake that is dammed up at the southern end so that it does not dry up. Continue to Lake Längsee, whose black water and pristine shores create a charming and mystical atmosphere.

The next lake is the larger Hechtsee, a popular bathing lake with very nice places to rest and pause. If you like, you can take a break in the Seearena Hechtsee at the southeast end of the lake. The leisure activities are interesting for everyone, big and small, and you can let yourself be pampered in the restaurant.

The last lake is a bog lake and is protected, among other things, because of the beautiful water lilies and water lilies found there. The so-called Egelsee is the northernmost lake in Kufstein and the atmosphere is magical. The further path then leads you along the Inn and back to Kufstein.

Pfrillsee

Highlight • Lake

The Pfrillsee, a beautiful little swimming lake, is one of the four Thierberg lakes west of Kufstein. At the south end it is dammed about a meter, otherwise it would silt up. Near the south bank you have a nice view over Kufstein.

Längsee (Kufstein)

Highlight • Lake

Small enchanted lake on the Thierberg. The almost black water and the untouched nature are very idyllic. Since the lake has only a few places to lie down, there is hardly any swimming and you can enjoy the silence and privacy.

Hechtsee South Shore

Highlight • Lake

Very popular swimming lake on the Thierberg. If you like it a little more organized, you can also visit the Seearena Hechtsee on the south-east bank. The bathing establishment offers, among other things, a children's pool. The sea arena restaurant is open all year round.

Egelsee

Highlight • Lake

The Egelsee is a moor lake and is located directly on the border with Germany. This makes it the north-easternmost lake in Kufstein, and because of its beautiful sea and pond roses, including the protected yellow pond rose, it has been declared a protected area. So you are not allowed to swim here, especially since the lake is also privately owned, but you can enjoy the wonderful atmosphere on a quiet hike.

A beautiful four lakes hike with @Natascha and @Carlos in the Kufstein region.

"The easy four-lake hike with a flat route leads to four picturesque lakes in the Kufsteinerland. The Pfrillsee, the Längsee, the Hechtsee and the Egelsee are beautifully embedded in nature and can be easily reached with a circular hike." That's what it says in the online Tyrol travel guide, from which I downloaded the GPX data. Yes, it's all true - but they aren't Salzkammergut lakes. As is usually the case with my outings, I was overcome by extreme restlessness at the end, and instead of strolling leisurely through Kufstein and having a nice meal together, we got a vegetarian Dürüm or a nut snail from the bakery at Kebabstand and drove home, each in our own direction. It was different with the Sparschiene tickets. You had to stay as long as you had planned - which sometimes has an advantage. Kufstein is such a nice little town. So, see you next time in Kufstein!

Criteria for our Wednesday evening tour planning. Where is the best weather and where can we easily travel by public transport? Start 5:45 a.m. Bus 200 Feldkirchen - Linz 6:45 a.m. RJX to Zurich - arrival in Kufstein 9:07 a.m. Tour route: Stimmersee Pfrillsee Längsee Hechtsee - there is a swimming area on the eastern shore of the lake. Short detour to the Bavarian side - towards the Gießenbachklamm gorge along the Kieferbach stream. The small waterfall comes from the overflow of the Hechtsee, which flows into the Kieferbach stream. Egelsee - it rained briefly there. All paths are easy to walk. To finish, a small coffee break at Regina's Confiserie (which has wonderful homemade macarons and pastries) followed by a walking tour of Kufstein.

Pfrillsee - Längsee - Hechtsee Once again a wonderful, varied, "heartfelt" and fun hike. At first it only goes up a few meters, but not much. 🍁🍂🥾☀️ Absolute highlight: We saw a fire salamander 🥰 A big thank you to BEA for the idea & organization 🤗🤗 It's wonderfully accessible with the Germany ticket, the train goes through from Munich main station.

Egelsee Hechtsee Längsee Pfrillsee Unfortunately, Komoot led me astray a few times today. Either the path was no longer there or it went through private property, which I obviously didn't enter. Still, this loop was quite nice. Unfortunately, there aren't many opportunities to take photos at Egelsee and Längsee. The water at Hechtsee was really pleasant. It was almost always through a lot of forest and well protected from the sun. This tour has been on my list for a while and is now checked off ✅
