The Tübingen district has always been a pioneer when it comes to regenerative energy supply. On this tour you now have the opportunity to find out all sorts of interesting facts about this topic while you pedal yourself.
The start and finish of the bike tour is the outdoor pool in Tübingen - renewable energies are already being used here, such as the solar thermal system in the outdoor pool or the photovoltaic system in the Paul Horn Arena next door. You cross the Neckar and drive through the bicycle tunnel on the Schlossberg into the lower town. Thanks to you, +1 has just been noted on the bicycle counting station at the entrance to the tunnel.
Passing the Old Botanical Garden, there is a steep stretch up the mountain to Waldhausen. An information board informs you about the cogeneration plant there. Shortly afterwards the Schönbuch devours you and you drive through the deepest forest with a little break at the Bebenhausen monastery. The ride goes up, then back down to Dettenhausen, then up to Weil im Schönbuch and finally back down to Waldenbuch - that can also be part of an energy tour.
After you've pretty much emptied your energy reserves, you can first devote yourself to recharging them. The Ritter Sport café and museum on the sculpture cycle path is just what you need. It's best to pack some provisions in the attached factory outlet shop, because two decent climbs await you today.
The first begins directly behind the outskirts of Waldenbuch. Once at the top, it goes from the Braunäckern back down to Dettenhausen - if you only want to drive a short lap, you can shorten the tour on the way there, by the way. After the last ascent, you drive on long, straight forest roads through Schönbuch, while information boards from the forestry office provide information about energy generation from wood.
Finally, there is a rapid descent back to the Neckar. Shortly before reaching the old town of Tübingen you will pass a weir. The historic waterworks have been producing electricity since 1911. Further along the Neckar it goes back to the starting point of the tour.
