Hiking
The landscape around Gerolstein is known for its impressive dolomite cliffs. On this hike, you'll explore the region's geology and discover an impressive cave. It's worth packing a flashlight or headlamp for this. The route is complemented by magnificent views of the Eifel region.
From Gerolstein train station, hike along the Gerolstein Rock Trail up to the Buchenloch Cave, carved deep into the dolomite. People found shelter in its rock hall as early as the Stone Age – a fascinating place that you can easily explore with a flashlight. Shortly afterward, you'll reach a viewing rock with a view over Gerolstein before continuing uphill to the Munterley Plateau.
Once at the top, the trail leads you across the wide plateau past the Geoacker, where information panels reveal more about the geological features. At the foot of the Kasselburger Hahn, a detour to Kasselburg Castle is worthwhile. Afterwards, you can take a relaxed walk along wide paths through forests and meadows back towards the city – with beautiful views of the Kyll Valley before you reach the train station again.

We continue through a very varied landscape, across fields, along green mossy rocks, a spectacular Stone Age cave and many informative information boards line the path.

Great tour! A lovely half-day tour with my wife and our 1 1/2 year old in the backpack, with a quick lunch at Kasselburg. Highly recommended!
