What a beautiful day through the Geltinger Birk 🥰... Of course we walked the big lap, i.e. the Wamderweg "Möwe" with around 13.4 km 😊... Why komoot only saved the small piece is a mystery to me. The highlights were also left out 😳... Please change later, dear komoot team, if possible - thank you very much 😉...! ▶️ After a long time back and forth I finally managed to export the right tour 😃, thank you very much for the tip 🙏!! Now back to the magic part: The nature reserve is an ideal destination for us hikers with four different hiking trails ➡️... If we're here and don't have any plans for the whole day, let's redeem the birthday present and go on the go with the big round 🥰... And who would have thought that - in the best weather, we are only rewarded with great companions: - bright blue sky 🌞 - always shadow 🙃 - A light pinch of wind 🌬 - the sweet Café Lindhoft 🍰 - Pure nature 🌾 - Scottish highland cattle 🐂🐃 - Goats 🐐 - View of the calm Flensburg Fjord 🌊 - denden ghost forest from afar - fascinating trees 🌳🪴 - clear view of Denmark (Sonderborg) - and and and The Geltinger Birk and bay was soooo movingly beautiful that we'll just come back again 💙 🥰... https://www.ndr.de/ratgeber/reise/flensburg_schlei/Geltinger-Birk-Wandern-durchs-Naturreservation,geltingerbirk102.html
At the end of the little Schleswig-Holstein break to NSG Geltinger Birk. Inspired by Gunnarsson and otherwise quite far from home, this NSG was still on the hiking wish list. Great lap, especially the first half, but then a bus must have stopped somewhere ... very crowded. When the weather is bad, it is definitely quieter and more wonderful here.
Today we went on a circular hike around the Geltinger Birk nature reserve. A great route with perfect "hiking infrastructure". Toilets, enough rest areas and a spacious hiking car park with a well-stocked kiosk 👍. Not to mention the wonderful views and the informative boards along the way. If you're ever in the area: definitely do it!
Day 15: the holiday ends at the lighthouse with a hike through the Geltinger Birk. And as the cherry on the holiday cake, there is a rainbow to celebrate the end 🌈 Already the fourth Birk round this year and by far the windiest. Start with gusts of wind and wind/rain from the side/front, at the end more and more sun and at least no more storm. Finishing in "Hannis Café" at the Seehof campsite, testing out the range of cakes. 😋 The circular route around the Birk has been completely repaired and is also fully accessible to cyclists again - without long sandy sections. End of holiday, back in Hamburg after a total of 2,604 kilometers in 15 days.
Class tour in storm and bad weather. The horses were not to be seen, but the nature experience was still terrific.
Bright sunshine lured us north. We almost forgot the sunglasses. The closer we got to Gelting, dark clouds gathered ... so change your glasses again. Luckily the wind blew in between and cleared the way for the sun from time to time. The circular routes start at the parking lot. You choose between toad, horse, beef or seagull. We wanted to go around and let the seagull guide us. Many display boards along the way explained the origin and habitat ... a worthwhile round that made us sweat a lot because of the unusual 13 degrees.
The nature reserve at the eastern end of the Flensburg Fjord is a habitat for around 200 species of birds, wild horses and highland cattle. Four beautiful hiking trails lead through it. We chose the "Möwe" hiking trail (13.3 km). This is the longest way and leads once around the Birk.
Instead of starting 2025 with the Geltinger Birk as originally planned, we ended 2024 with the Birk and the Möve circular trail. The old Nabu hut has "disappeared" since our last round here in September. A new building will be built soon. It was surprisingly busy, and not just around the parking lots. 🤭 However, today there were only pedestrians. Almost. We met two cyclists... in a good wind and increasing drizzle. Have a good New Year! 🥂🥳
