Hiking

The Princely Park Inzigkofen with monastery, the impressive Devil's Bridge over the Höll Gorge and picturesque views of the floodplain landscape of the Danube - you will discover all of this on the Kloster-Felsenweg. It starts right on the banks of the Danube in Laiz, which you can also get to by bus from Sigmaringen train station. You cross the river and follow the dike wall towards Inzigkofen, never losing sight of the calm waters.

At the end of the wall, you hike on a gravel path to the Amalienfelsen junction. To reach the vantage point on the rock, you need a little detour. But it definitely pays off, because up there you have a magnificent view of the Danube loop flowing past below.

Back on the main path, it goes again briefly along the banks of the Danube, then sharp left in the direction of Inzigkofen Monastery. You cross the monastery area in order to descend a little later to the Teufelsbrücke mentioned above. According to legend, it was built by the devil himself in order to get a human soul from the Inzigkofen residents in return. But don't worry: that was a long time ago. You can take your time when crossing and a little later - at Känzele - enjoy the wonderful view of the Danube Valley.

This is exactly where you descend. First parallel to the banks of the Danube, then crossed the river again, you now always keep in the direction of Broken Gutenstein, a ruin that is worth exploring. Over the romantic Schmeietal, past the historic Gypsy Rock and finally once again delighted with a wonderful view from the Split Rock, you slowly but surely walk back to your starting point.

Amalien Rock

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Amalienfelsen rock is located on the way to the Devil's Bridge in a left-hand bend in the Danube on the right. It's immediately recognizable by the inscribed memorial, fantastic!

Devil's Bridge Inzigkofen

Highlight • Bridge

One of the most striking sights in the Princely Complex is the Devil's Bridge, which is 21.5 meters long and crosses a wild and romantic gorge, the 19.5 meter deep “Höll”.
The wooden bridge constructed when the park was expanded to the west in 1843 was replaced in 1895 by an elegantly curved concrete structure with ascending and descending stairs. The bridge, the name of which probably goes back to the enthusiasm for Switzerland in Romanticism and is derived from the "real" Devil's Bridge at the St. Gotthard Pass, is soon embellished with a legend according to which the builder asked the devil, who was helpful in the bridge construction, to call it in of "wages" was able to outsmart. After passing the bridge, you leave the gorge through a 4 meter long, artificial rock tunnel. The "Höll" below the Teufelsbrücke was accessible in earlier days by an adventurous staircase and footbridge, the "Himmelsleiter".

Ruins of Gebrochen Gutenstein

Highlight • Castle

The castle was originally called Neugutenstein, later called Niedergutenstein. Since its disintegration, the name "broken gutter stone" has prevailed for the plant.

The ruin stands on a spur at the confluence of the Schmeie in the Danube between Inzigkofen and Gutenstein.
The Felsenburg consisted of the Kernburg lying on an isolated rock and a farmyard lying on the adjacent area. On the approximately triangular core castle was the residential tower, from which two-storey remains of the walls were preserved. The lower castle was located in the shelter of a rock overhang. From her only small remnants of the wall remained.

Schmeie Valley

Highlight • Gorge

Magnificent greenery, plenty of water and here and there a proud rock – the Schmeietal is a wonderful chapter of the Kloster-Fels-Weg and a gentle change from the stony structures of Teufelsbrücke and Gebrochen Gutenstein.

October 21, 2024,🇩🇪 Sigmaringen / 🅿️ - Kloster-Felsenweg
The monastery rock path is not named by chance. In addition to the Princely Park Inzigkofen with monastery, Amalienfelsen, suspension bridge and the legendary Devil's Bridge over the Höll Gorge, there are numerous rock formations to marvel at that can be found all over the landscape. Again and again you can catch beautiful views of the picturesque floodplain landscape of …

Today we went on a promising autumn hike from the parking lot of the Sigmaringen / Laiz gymnasium in the beautiful Danube valley. The view from the Amalienfelsen, the broken Gutenstein, the gypsy rock and the erratic block. In addition, highlights such as the Inzigkofen monastery, the Inzighofener grottoes or the Teufelsbrücke, which know how to shine in the autumn …

We started our day tour at the "Alte Donau" hiking car park. This is relatively small. Approx. 600m further is the parking lot at the gym in Laiz. The hike first ran on the left side of the direction of flow of the Danube. In Laiz we crossed it and now we continued on the other side against the direction …

Today I was with my better half on the way to the Danube Valley, which I always wanted to hike. We start on the Danube in Laiz at the parking lot of the gym and don't take our eyes off the river at first. Along the dike wall on the way to Inzigkofen, we follow the turn-off to the Amalienfelsen. …

Yes, and our second day on the Danube in a smaller group was also uniquely beautiful. Patrick chose very well, because the impressions were varied - Danube - views from the rocks - views of grottos - bridges with a rocking effect :-)) During the two days, we also engaged some unknown Komoot friends in friendly conversations :-))

The monastery rock path has been accessible and open again since October 16, 2023. The area around “Gebrochen Gutenstein” is still closed due to the extreme storm damage. A diversion has been set up.

The Princely Park in Inzigkofen is open and accessible.
