The varied circular route, marked LT1 (Liebliche Taubertal), is characterized by a lot of variety and wonderful views of the Odenwald, Spessart, the Main valley and a variety of cultural and historical features. The LT1 begins at the town hall in Freudenberg.
While I was still in Freudenberg, I took advantage of today's beautiful weather to go on another day hike. My starting point was Rewe because they had a branch of the Fuchs bakery, which was my breakfast option. Here, when you get a raisin roll, they ask if it comes with or without a biscuit. They're available everywhere without, so bring on the biscuit version - highly recommended! 😋 Afterwards, I walked along the Main river back to the old town and up to Freudenberg Castle. And that brought back memories: in the summer of 2020, I came down these stairs at the end of a great tour on the Nibelungensteig, which was my first long-distance hiking trail ever. And so today I walked mostly on the same paths I took back then. This time I only glanced at the summit register on the Wannenberg to see if other hikers on the last leg of the trail had left similarly enthusiastic comments in the book as I had back then. And yes, they did, which I found very nice. Passing the viewpoint to Eichenbühl, the large and small Heunesteine (stones), the circular ramparts, and the wonderful sandstone figures of the educational and youth hiking trail, I reached the Centgrafenkapelle (Centgraf Chapel). From here, there's a fantastic view of Miltenberg, and the spot is perfect for a rest. Another very beautiful spot awaits hikers right afterward: the Stutzkapelle (Stutz Chapel). The tour then leads back to Freudenberg Castle. I finished off with an ice cream on the banks of the Main before heading home. A lovely walk! 🙂
This time @Buschnomade was touring in a region I had never been to before. Between Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, above the Main. On the first section I still thought: a typical hiking highway and not much to see apart from the forest. But it didn't stay that way for long. There are several great vantage points (of the Main and the surrounding mountains and forests) and some interesting sights on the tour. Above all, Freudenberg Castle, which I really liked. A number of smaller highlights are also included. In between, but also pure forest sections. The paths are varied. Sometimes hiking highways, sometimes forest paths, then sections over hill and dale and a little bit of asphalt. You can follow our route, but there is a section that was signposted as "not accessible" and which we took anyway. Steep uphill in the lanes of any forest work vehicles. In general, it goes uphill for a few kilometers. But I promise, it's worth it! The route touches the well-known Nibelungensteig at many points. The car was parked in the "Stutz" hiking car park, which googlemaps also knows.
Great tour and still only 3 stars. Due to the autumnal weather, we were naturally wearing long hiking clothes. Luckily. In the first third after the castle, a stretch of about 2 km was so overgrown with blackberry bushes that in summer you would definitely have been injured in short clothing. But otherwise, many places with incredible views and lots of very good information about the Nibelungen saga. And the castle in Freudenberg is a highlight anyway. So remember the blackberries. Have fun 👍
Today we went on a treasure hunt. Namely after the treasure of the Nibelung saga. At the beginning there was a crisp climb in the room. Then old markings led us astray and the jungle in front of us forced us to turn back a little later. All just a tactic to keep us from searching? 🤔Hmm. No, the route would be changed, as we were to find out later, but the old markings had not been removed. According to Komoottour we were right. Nevertheless, we followed the new route. Even the ring wall in the middle of the forest couldn't stop us. 😁 When we arrived at the treasure, it turned out to be too heavy and we left it there.😄 But somehow the curse continued to haunt us. Komoot deleted part of the rest of the route for me, which had to leave me to improvise. A few fallen trees in the middle of the trail had to be climbed over or hiked under before we got back to our starting point. 😮💨😅
Thank you both for the wonderful time and your hospitality.
Very nice hiking route with the altitude difference right at the beginning. There are many smaller and larger highlights on the route. The summit cross with summit book is also very beautiful. The route is indicated in the brochure as 13.4 kilometers. We only got lost once by about 500 meters and in the end we had 17 kilometers on our hiking boots 🤔. There are no signs in one or the other junction.
Start: Kirschfurt Bf Destination: Kirschfurt Bf Length: 16 kilometers Height: 520 meters Difficulty: Medium Nickname: to the Heunensteine (or not😉) Description: Actually, I'm currently on the Albsteig. But because I bought new shoes, I chose a shorter hike, but no less beautiful. I hiked the last LT tour 369 days ago, in Gerlachsheim. This was also my first hike where I crossed the Main, because the train station was in Kirschfurt. You then leave the small town at the Main bridge to Freudenberg, I saved the town and the castle for the way back. So I hiked behind the castle and onto the castle path relatively quickly. At this point you've already gained incredible altitude. The gravel path leads to the left along the slope. At kilometer two, we turn right to tackle the second part of the climb. Here I met a hiker who was definitely older than me and ran up at a speed that I think he runs every day for breakfast. In between, the path is supposed to be impassable, but the path may be a bit churned up and muddy but absolutely hikeable. We continue uphill. On forest paths, so I would recommend that you walk the path clockwise, then you will have the highlights on the second half. When you reach the Wannenberg, you have reached the highest point of the tour. Here you have the option of taking a break or finding out more about the mountain. A little later, we come to the Bürgstädter Berg via a beautiful path through the forest. There is a ring wall here from the Bronze Age, now it gets really beautiful. We make our way down a path to a viewing platform with a fabulous view of the valley. I thought it was a shame that the tour showed practically all the highlights of the Nibelungensteig stage, but then I had to take a detour between KM 7.7 and 9.7 because of logging work, so I came directly to the Centgranfen Chapel, the ruins are a building of an unfinished chapel because of the Thirty Years' War. But you have a first-class view of Miltenberg and the Main Valley from here. Be careful at kilometer 13.6, do not follow the sign to the shelter, it is a dead end, but slightly to the right on the castle path to the castle, I could tell an endless story here but take a look for yourself, even if the climb up the stairs is difficult, you will not only be rewarded with views of the Main Valley. Conclusion: I have now done all three Odwnwald LT circular hiking trails, this one had many highlights, so it can keep up very well with the other two Highlights: ⭐️Wannenberg ⭐️Ringwall (Bürgstädter Berg) ⭐️Views of the Main Valley ⭐️Freudenberg Castle ⭐️Freudenberg Town ⭐️Paths
