"Swigger" has nothing to do with trendy youth slang; it's the first name of the fourth ruler of Gundelfingen from the 12th century. The roughly six-kilometer-long "hochgehswiggert" trail leads you in the ruler's footsteps through the Großes Lautertal recreation area. The tour starts at the Heiligental hiking parking lot.

This is a really great after-work tour. The start is at the Heiligental car park in Gundelfingen. From there it goes along the Lauter to Derneck Castle. The kiosk in the castle is open. Then it goes through the forest and past a playground back to Gundelfingen, over the Lauter and up to the Hohengundelfingen ruins. The view from above is ..... it's best to walk there yourself and check it out yourself. Then go back to the parking lot. Everything your heart desires. Great round. I didn't count the countless barbecue areas. The tranquility in the Lautertal fascinates me again and again.
A lovely walk today with a view of the Alps and the first onion cake of the year. We got the last piece at Derneck Castle - very, very tasty and fitting for the autumn mood up there.
Swigger was the first name of the 4th ruler of Gundelfingen from the 12th century. In his footsteps you can hike on the »hochgehswiggert« around, in and above the »Großes Lautertal« recreation area. Going up and looking down is also the outstanding feature of this tour - hike over juniper heaths and let the path lined with stately beeches work on you, in Heiligental and simply "scratch" in Ratzental and find inner peace. Sunbathing lawns, numerous places to stop for refreshments and barbecue areas along the "hochgehswiggert" offer plenty of options to turn the hike into a very special experience. https://hochgehberge.de/touren/hochgehswiggert-premiumwanderweg-hohengundelfingen-burg-derneck/
small Sunday hike on the premium hiking trail "hochgehswiggert". Although the weather wasn't that bad today, there were only a few hikers on the way. From the hiking car park near Gundelfingen, first turn right up to Derneck Castle and then, after descending back to Gundelfingen, on the other side of the valley to Hohengundelfingen. The last descent to the hiking car park was very slippery today. It would have been better to follow the forest path into the valley and not take the hiking trail.
Hochgeswiggert is a short but very varied hike in the beautiful Lautertal. The tour usually starts at the Heiligental hiking car park. Since I wanted to admire the sunrise over the Lautertal, I started at the Hohengundelfingen ruins. From the ruins you have a great view of the Lautertal and the Niedergundelfingen ruins. From there it goes through the forest towards Heiligental. For the descent into the Heiligental, I recommend hiking sticks, especially in damp conditions. From the Heiligental car park, continue along the Lauter. After about one kilometer it goes right up to Derneck Castle. From there it goes through the forest back to Gundelfingen. Through the village you can climb back to the castle.
Swigger was the first name of the IVth ruler of Gundelfingen in the 12th century. You can follow in his footsteps on the "hochgehswiggert" trail around, in and above the "Großes Lautertal" recreation area.
The Schwäbiche Alb in autumn is a MUST 🍁🍂🍁🍂 The colors of the mixed forests are fantastic 🤩 If you can then fall back on someone who is very spontaneous, such a hike is twice as fun 😃 I will definitely take a few more hikes from the tour series 🥳
