Hiking

With the lion path "Ave-Weg" you embark on a spiritual journey with a touch of pilgrimage on the Albtrauf. In order for you to have enough peace and quiet, the round tour is only a good eight kilometers long. A few meters in altitude are still waiting for you to spoil you with the finest views of the Upper Filstal.

Right at the beginning of the tour, you can explore the Ave Maria pilgrimage church from the German late baroque period. Your showpiece is the high altar in the center of the church. If you have looked around here enough, it goes over the Franziskuspfad up to the Alb plateau and the first impressive view from the Kilian's Cross.

The next ascent is gentler and takes you to almost 770 meters, the highest point of the circular hike. You leisurely stroll downhill to the modest Buschelkapelle. At the height of the Oberberg you descend more steeply and have a great view of Bad Ditzenbach and Deggingen.

Shortly before the end of the spiritual round you arrive at the fabulous Ave source. It is said that there were once many small spring pots here, only one of which is said to have promised a cure. A shiny lion, who is said to have appeared here to the sick, is said to have helped in choosing the right pot.

Pilgrimage Church Ave Maria Deggingen

Highlight • Religious Site

The Ave Maria church is located in the Upper Filstal and is a popular place of pilgrimage. It was built from 1716 to 1718 and the interiors show rich stucco ornamentation. In the center is the high altar, which is the showpiece of Ave Maria.

There are a few views on the Ave trail, with this one being the best. There is also a bench for rest.

Buschel Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The Buschel Chapel stands within the abandoned Berneck Castle. There is an old well there, which unfortunately no longer has any water. All that remains of the castle itself are earthworks, which suggest its former size.

Ave Spring

Highlight • Natural

The Ave rises here just a stone's throw from the hiking trail of the same name. According to legend, there were once more than 50 small spring pots here, from which the water just gushed. Only one of the springs was considered to have healing properties. But if you drank from the wrong source, you should die quickly. Those who were healed by the water said afterwards that in their search for the right source, a beautiful lion shining in the light appeared to them, who is said to have shown them the right source.

Today I was out and about in very nice company 😀 Our conversations made this little lion trail 🦁 very entertaining. So much so that I forgot to take photos 🤣🤣🤣
A wonderful autumn walk with slightly hazy views...
Thank you @Susi for accompanying me 🤩

It was supposed to be a shorter walk today, even with a bit of sunshine. ✔️🌻
So I hiked my Lion Trail No. 6.
You can do it, but there isn't much to see.
But the main thing is to be outside in the fresh air. 🏕️

From the large car park, a short climb up to the beautiful Ave Maria pilgrimage church. Then up to various grottos, springs and the Alt-Ave chapel. Continue up, partly steeply, to the Albtrauf with the Kilianskreuz and the Buschelkapelle. A long walk along the Albtrauf with many views of the valley. The Ave-Weg marks the start of the lion paths. The hike begins at the lower parking lot of the pilgrimage church "Ave Maria" in Deggingen. It is a great circular hiking trail along the Albtrauf above Deggingen, where you always have a clear view of the "Täle". I will definitely walk this circular route again in summer when the weather …

I've wanted to walk this 🦁path for a long time, today it finally worked.... As probably did 1000 other people😅😅
Sometimes I was traveling alone, so I could actually enjoy the silence, but sometimes there were downright scuffles over the few benches....

Wonderfully beautiful way you are almost alone on the road.
Thank you Schwäbischer Albverein for the wonderful way.
