Valley of the Ghosts Trailhead

Highlight • Trail

Access to Vallée des Fantômes changes quite a bit with the season. In summer, you can drive yourself into the Baie d’Alexis sector, following Chemin du Bras-des-Canots for about 10 kilometres from the Discovery and Visitors Centre. It’s a gravel road, and the Vallée des Fantômes trail begins near the Antoine-Dubuc Lodge, around 500 metres away.

In winter, you can’t simply drive to the trailhead. Instead, park at the Discovery and Visitors Centre and take the Fantôme-Express, a 25-passenger tracked-vehicle shuttle that travels the 10 kilometres along Chemin du Bras-des-Canots. The ride takes around 45 minutes and drops you at the foot of Vallée des Fantômes. For winter 2026–27, the return fare is $69.75 CAD per adult, while children ride free. Spaces are limited and reservations are mandatory; call 1-800-665-6527 to book. Don't procrastinate on the booking, spaces fill up quickly!

Valley of the Ghosts Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Vallée des Fantômes Trail climbs about 330 metres over 3 kilometres from the Baie d’Alexis sector to Pic Dubuc. The climb is steady through dense boreal forest, with a warming shelter around two kilometres in. In winter, deep snow coats the trees into the strange “ghost” shapes that give the valley its name; in summer, the same trail is a much greener forest climb.

Pic Dubuc

Highlight • Viewpoint

Pic Dubuc is the high point above Vallée des Fantômes, with views across the Mont Valin massif, its foothills and the Saguenay lowlands. It’s the payoff after the 3-kilometre climb through the valley, and in winter the summit area is often surrounded by heavily snow-covered trees. From here, you can also continue onto the newer 1.2-kilometre Passage des Fantômes panoramic trail.
