Here a wooden boardwalk runs along the Uggerby. Very good to ride and fun.

Tversted

Highlight • River

Tversted is surrounded by unique nature. If you drive or walk through the village and drive straight down to the beach you will encounter the Skagerrak, the high dunes and the long beach of dazzling white sand. Explore North Jutland's oldest dune plantation and see Denmark's last working sugar cane mill. Sail down Uggerby Å in a canoe or visit antique shops, galleries and artisans who produce high-quality ceramics, glass art, knitwear and beautiful works of art. The ice houses (open in spring and summer) are a big attraction - the white guf is famous.

At the end of 1943, the German Navy decided that a coastal battery should be set up in Bunken Klitplantage Binnendünen to cover both Tannis Bugt and Ålbæk Bugt.

Construction began in January 1944, and by April work was sufficiently advanced for the guns to be trial-fired.

The battery was armed with four Danish 12 cm coastal guns "borrowed" from the Danish Coastal Defence. Until March 1944 the guns were located in the coastal batteries Løkken-Nord and Frederikshavn, which were converted to more modern guns.

The guns stood openly on concrete foundations with ammunition niches. The bunkers for the gun crews and ammunition had walls and ceilings only 20-40 cm thick. This meant that the bunkers only provided protection against shrapnel and small arms fire, but in return the construction work could be completed more quickly. The bunkers are of the same type as the bunkers built in Hals at the same time. Twelve concrete positions were built in the battery, all of panel construction and of the same type as at Tversted and Hals. The construction of three more bunkers was planned, but was not realized.

The battery position was surrounded by barbed wire, but no landmines were laid nearby.

The battery post is well preserved and lies undisturbed in the plantation. With the exception of the fire control bunker, which was blown up in 1956, all bunkers have been preserved and are more or less accessible.

A single bunker, the Munitionsbunker, was reused by the Danish military for the Munitions Depot built southwest of the battery position in the 1960s.

The wind had temporarily turned to the west, which meant that there was finally a tailwind, even if it was a slight one. Beautiful and mostly easy-to-ride paths. And to top it all off, we went to Grenen, to stand with one foot in the North Sea and the other in the Baltic Sea.
