Hiking

Quality that is impressive awaits you on the extensive viaduct hiking trail. Over 30 kilometers, you explore the mighty railway viaduct, Altenbeken's landmark that can be seen from afar, from above and below. Collectors get the punch card specially created for the trail in advance, which can be validated at five stations. At the end, you'll receive a neat certificate and a hiking pin.

It's best to plan a whole day for the fairly long circular tour. With a snack and drinks in your backpack, you'll be well equipped, but there are also inviting places to stop for a break along the way. Again and again, you'll have beautiful views of the trains that travel over the viaduct - sometimes leisurely chugging regional trains, sometimes speeding express trains. And since the tour is well signposted, you can concentrate fully on this unique experience.

But it's not just the omnipresent viaduct that will amaze you. You will also pass the Max and Moritz spring. The figures are set in stone and are sure to put a smile on your face.

The last few kilometers are particularly picturesque as you walk through the expansive Dunetal and the Egge idyll. Enjoy the great landscape to the fullest. If you like, you can take a closer look at the historic steam locomotive that awaits you at the end of the tour.

At this point / I would like to quickly / say something about the source:
To quote the incomparable humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909 - 1979), who was known to a wide audience for his word jokes and "Noch'n poem", with a short quatrain:
"There is certainly much beauty in
on the element, the wet.
Because you can drink the water.
But you can - also leave it."

Dune Viaduct

Highlight • Bridge

The Small Viaduct is only the "second most impressive" because its big brother, the Altenbeken Viaduct, is just six kilometers away and is twice as long. But even the "small" one - 230 meters long, 33 meters high with twelve arches - is not so easy to capture on a 35mm camera.

Altenbeken Viaduct Trail

Highlight • Trail

The viaduct hiking trail offers numerous beautiful views. This hiking trail is very well planned. It seems natural, but you can still see that a lot of thought went into the planning to offer hikers something scenic. Really beautiful views over fields, meadows and forests. Simply beautiful!

With the viaduct hiking trail, I took the opportunity to cover 30 km in one day. So that I am not completely alone in this endeavor, hiking friends @Lutz Rohne and @Michael accompany me on this well-marked circular route.

From the parking lot in Altenbeken, we saw the historic steam locomotive of the 044 series right at the beginning, which …

The nature is in no way inferior to the viaduct that gives the tour its name: forests, meadows, streams – and now, at the end of April/beginning of May, a wild garlic firework display that repeatedly made us stop. Especially in the Dunetal, along the Silberbeke, as well as on the Beke and Durbeke, countless white blossoms transformed the forest …

After the exciting and fun tour yesterday, there was a relaxed hiking tour for me today - if you can talk about relaxed with purple thighs... I felt each of the 38660 steps intensively😅🤣
I really liked the tour itself: narrow paths through forest and fields, great views and sunshine - perfect Sunday program 🤩
Anyone who had been prepared …

Today I did the viaduct hiking trail in Altenbeken, Paderborn with about 10 people. The weather was wonderful and the group was great!

It took between 7:30 and 8 hours, komoot recorded it incorrectly.

But it was the first time with an offline map and it went really well!

I can only recommend this tour! 👍🏻

Grandiose hiking trail - since 2009 rightly “Quality Trail Wanderable Germany”, with alternating landscapes and wonderful distant views. The path is well signposted in both directions and there is also a stamped card that can be validated at five stations along the way. For a complete hike, there is a certificate with a hiking pin.
