The name “Les Enfants du marais” pays homage to the film of the same name by Jean Becker, which used the lake of Arboréiaz as a filming location. On this wild route marked by paths through fields and forests, you have the opportunity to discover this natural gem and many others, in the heart of the Ain. Heritage is also very present, with typically Bugiste hamlets and villages following one another along the route.
The loop starts from the town of Belley, the cultural center of Bugey with its private mansions, chapels, and of course its cathedral. After crossing its small streets, you head towards the village of Arbignieu on a rugged terrain that is perfectly suited for gravel biking. Saint-Bois, Veyrin, Conzieu, and Colomieu follow each other until you reach the lake of Arboréiaz, a highlight of the route. All that remains is to descend back to Belley in an equally charming setting, alternating between nature and hamlets.

Very beautiful gravel loop with a nice diversity of surface types covered. In the land of the Bugey lakes hike, this loop is fully signposted for gravel and MTB from Belley.
