Preliminary note: Tour from July 13, 2025 😉 We're thrilled by Sweden's landscapes, and we're curious to discover more. Although evening is slowly approaching, we take a relatively long drive and drive our camper from the Hunneberg Nature Reserve to the Kinnekulle Stenbrott. Easily translated, that means the quarry in the Kinnekulle Nature Reserve. We turn off the main road and drive along an old tarmac road, overgrown with weeds. To the left and right of the road, there are a few old, rusty warehouses and scrap metal on the clay-red gravel. We feel a bit like we're in an apocalyptic movie. I'm beginning to have slight doubts about whether we want to spend the night in this godforsaken, somewhat eerie-looking area. But the further we drive on the road to nowhere, the more beautiful it becomes, and suddenly a huge crater opens up, and we marvel at the towering rock walls rising up around us. Relieved and surprised, we see that several campers already want to spend the night with us. Although the Hunneberg tour is still fresh in my bones, I go on a quick exploration tour and take a few photos before it gets dark (see 🙂 here: 🇸🇪-07 Over an aqueduct into the Hunneberg Nature Reserve https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2398636961). We sleep wonderfully, and the next morning we set out to explore Kinnekulle. We climb slowly along the quarry, and the higher we get, the more magnificent the views become. It's like a Grand Canyon. We continue on to the old, historic observation tower. While Ulrike takes a breather to take in the panoramic views, I lick an ice cream and enjoy the beautiful weather. We hike further into the nature reserve and down beautiful paths and trails to the enormous Lake Vänern. After a long footbath in the clear, warm water, we continue along a secluded forest path along the small cliffs. In a lovely café garden, we feast on a Taco Fiesta and a lamb and beef mergues, according to the enigmatic translation of the Google app. Refreshed, we climb back up to the quarry and are once again overwhelmed by the views that await us at the top of the crater rim. The sun slowly sets over Lake Vänern, casting its last warm rays over this stunning landscape. Down in the canyon, we enjoy our Hoppy Lager before this 5 ✨✨✨✨✨ day comes to an end. A somewhat challenging tour, not because of the elevation gain, but because of the terrain, which required great attention, especially in the initial phase. The observation tower on the mountain was unfortunately still closed, and since I didn't feel like waiting 1.5 hours for it to open, I started the return journey without enjoying the view from the top. Shortly before reaching my starting point, I encountered comrades with a different field post number.
