Hiking
The Hochmoor Löckernmoos is a magical place. You can discover countless animal and plant species that grow and thrive in the Dachstein massif only at this point. The damp soil is dotted with cottongrass, juniper and blackberry hedges.
The hike starts at the Schleifsteinhauer huts, which you can reach in about two hours from Gosau. From there, the trail leads over wooden footbridges in the middle of the moor and to the picturesque Löckernsee. Here you also have a great view of the rugged Gosaukamm with the distinctive peak of Bischofsmütze. At the end of the round trip you can take a rest in the Badstubnhütte before you start the return journey to Gosau.
If you want to save the two-hour ascent, then in summer you can take the Gosau tourist train to the "Schleifsteinhauerhütten" on Tuesdays and Sundays. It is a tractor with a large trailer, which brings you up the mountain comfortably. You can book your ride in the slow train by the tourist office in Gosau on +43 5 95095-20.
